Hi there,

I'm a mature student going to uni in September. Queens don't offer the course I'm doing so I'll not be there but I know a lot of other mature students from my course who plan on going. What have you applied for?

Hi,

I'll be doing medicine at Queens, but there is an alarmingly low level of mature's on the course - eeeeek!!!

Well, I can comfort you in saying that I personally know one mature student going to do medicine at QUB next year!

Ooooh - thats great, just to know i'll not be the only person over 18!
Are you originally from N.I yourself, i'm from sunny dundee - so not to familiar with Belfast myself, but the few times I've been over have been fun.

Yip, I'm a native, but I can assure you that you'll get to know the city fairly quickly - I know I did, and I'm not from Belfast. Have you got accomadation sorted out yet?

Hey - no I've not got accomodation sorted at all. I'm going to pop over in a few weeks to have a look around, but i'll probably just get a wee bedsit to myself to start with until I get to know some folk and stuff. Have decided not to go into halls coz i feel I am just a little to old, and there doesn't appear to be anything separate for 'mature' students.
What about yourself?

I'm off to France for a year as a teaching assistant, as part of my degree so I'll have the same fun as you're having, ie finding accomadation in a different country! Only difference is that I don't know precisely where I'm going yet, and obviously, this is France we're talking about. :p:

Only reason I'm asking you is because the MBC (home of the Medecine teaching) is a wee bit away from the main campus. Only 5 minute walk or so (or ten if you're slow ), but it's probably just something you should bear in mind, especially given the early starts! The MBC is on the Lisburn Rd, so anywhere off it would probably be ideal.
There's wee terraced houses near Belfast City Hospital (in the area of the MBC) on streets named after Greek/Roman god (like Pandora Street). They'd be ideal if you could find a flat or people to share with...I think they're quite popular with med students. And they're literally round the corner from the hospital and teaching centre.

Oh come on!

The media blows out of proportion the 'Anti-social' behaviour of N.Ireland.

It's MUCH improved now. And any chavs don't make it beyond 5th year anyway!

hey! im 21 and hoping to start queens in september, youl be grand but a bit worried about freshers week, i read on here that its a cattle market for 18 yr olds etc etc dunno if id be interested in that lol
I am nearly 20 too. Nothing to worry about I would say. But then again, I am not sure if I would really mind the prospect of the 'cattle market' [sic] though I don't really think that is to be expected at Queen's as there are so many student actually from Belfast or NI who might also already know each other.

Yep another mature student at 23 here, I'll be attending freshers' week too, though I have some reservations myself the anxiousness is most probably over nothing and will hopefully be an enjoyable week .
