    Hyphen usage: http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/hyphens.asp.
Emdash vs endash vs hyphen usage: http://english.stackexchange.com/que...h-and-a-hyphen.
    Semicolon usage: http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/semicolons.asp.

General sentence structure problems are a big issue to tackle. It's good to be succinct and to never skimp on commas. Do you have an example of your writing?

I would personally only use a comma before a conjunction like but when joining two independent clauses.

Your sentence becomes I'm at college but struggle with grammar mainly and punctuation at times.

I wouldn't say that the latter half of your sentence contradicts the first half so I question your usage of the word "but". Perhaps "I'm a college student who has some writing issues. In particular, I struggle with grammar; however my punctuation is also at times an issue".
