So with extra you don't make a firm choice or an insurance choice, you just wait until may to see what places are left or is this later on in the year? Thanks for the advice by the way.
It's a bit like slow motion clearing. You can only apply to a single choice at a time - if that university makes you an offer you can either make that your Firm or you can decline it and apply somewhere else. It can take a bit of time so the idea is that your first Extra choice should be your top choice (and ideally somewhere that have given you a good hint that you'll get an offer over the phone).
You don't get an insurance choice but if you do your research you should be sorted quickly enough to get accommodation etc.
