I think the ones that you can get done in health shops are scams...I think google it & it'll come up with an article from watchdog (search Holland & Barretts allergy test or something similar)?

Has anyone here consulted an allergy test service? If so, would you deem them reliable or just a money-making scam??

I have. It was reliable. It was my GP. It cost me nothing.

i'm personally, and always have been, sceptical of these tests/services.

I just thought i'd gather some perspectives on this

The ones you can get done at hospital/GP are obviously not scams. Get these if you can. Allergies can be fatal.

It depends, do you mean an actual allergy (e.g. exposure would result in anaphylaxis), or intolerance (e.g. apparently eating a certain food is making you feel tired and sick all the time)?

Allergy tests done medically are reliable, safe and free. Intolerance testing is quite often a load of *******s. See the other thread as well.

I had a bood test done at the hospital to investigate why I suffer from bad nasal congestion. Turns out I am a very allergenic person. I have a very bad allergy to dust mites which can also contribute to asthma and eczema which yep, I have too.

Its worth getting a test, its up to you what to do about it then. My doctor told me that I could get special duvets and sheets for my bed from boots but they cost a lot of money and to be honest I'd be very skeptical of them working. Theres not a lot I can do really so I'm just gonna live with it because it hasnt really had an effect on me.

Yeah, I got my allergy tests done at hospitals and I trust them. I have a very severe food allergy though, so I HAVE to trust mine, otherwise I'm a goner.

although i eat relatively sensibly and do a fair bit of exercise, all-too-often i find myself inexplicably tired. Can a nurse at the local GP do an allergy and intolerances test?

Id never get anything medically related tested by a commercial organization.
