I've put kcl as my firm for Mechanical Engineering MEng 2007 (Hoping so badly i get the grades). My insurance is nottingham university. Birmingham has more hands on experience, where as kcl is more cad etc. KCL is much better internationally, and if you want to do something other than engineering like finance kcl is better than birmingham. Overall both are good, but kcl is much better if you look at the wider aspects, meaning you have better chances in wider fields with kcl than birmingham. KCL has a wicked rep compared to birmingham and from friends i've been told kcl has wicked uni life. KCL recently said it had 100% rise in applications this year, n they said 2 me their not likely to go through clearing. However do a late application n you have a better chance. Also if you apply to them before clearing, they are understanding if you don't get the grades (just plead with them telling them you'll work harder etc). I say apply kcl, but its your choice. see what you think are the best benefits.

Thanks a lot! The thing is that I've already accepted a firm conditional offer from another uni, so I can't apply through extra. I didn't apply to Kings, so I guess I'l just have to wait and see what happens. I was deciding to put Birmingham as my insurance, but I prefer a Uni in London. So hopefully il get into my firm - if not il see whats on offer through clearing. Thanks for replying:smile:

Do you mean Mechanical Engineering won't be available through clearing, or is Kings College not participating in Clearing at all?

Yeah, i was talking about mechanical engineering. However it is not definite, so they may go through clearing, i rekon they will but you never know. Also, i wanted to know what uni you put down as your firm.

I've almost finished my BEng at Birmingham haha.. i'm of to KCL for a MSc in Computer Aided Mech Eng! Why not do both eh?! :P. It was between Cardiff and Birmingham for my undergrad, as i miffed my A lvls i didnt get the grades for Cardiff.. i've mixed feeligns about... Cardiff is ranked No1 for mech eng (times 2009 leagure tables) whilst brum has dropped to about top 20-25 from top 15 (2004). But the social aspects and the fact its a redbrick campus uni really makes up for it !.

They still have places in Extra, its quite possible they'll go into Clearing.

Your welcome.

Can I ask whats so good about Mech. Eng. and what do you actually learn?

I've applied for a Maths degree, but thinking of changing to a Engineering discipline.
