The Tories have been accused of spending double the legal limit election law allows in South Thanet, Nigel Farage's seat. So will they take any action, a fine, invalidate the vote etc or order a byelection

So the Conservatives spent a lot of time in hotels, and this is why UKIP think Farage lost.

Is this the sort of barrel-scraping complaining that we will get after the EU referendum if its an In vote?

of course not the point is we have electoral laws that provide equal spending limits for all parties, the Tories spent double the amount they should have under the law. Some of it was on hotels but that should be included under the overall figure so by excluding the hotel costs which they shouldn't have they spent more than they were legally allowed to on election materials given them an unfair advantage over all the other parties

The time limit for a challenge has long since expired. The return of the election expenses had to be made within 35 days of the election and a challenge brought within 10 days after that.

All that has happened is that those expenses have now been published on the electoral commission website.

The electoral commission has no power to invalidate an election. An election petition would have had to be brought within time in the High Court.

There have been 12 election petitions since the war (3 in Fermanagh & South Tyrone) the latest in 2015 in Orkney & Shetland which lost.

The only other way the election would be overturned is if the elected candidate was convicted of an illegal practice.

The reality is that Farage was a party leader as well as a candidate but unlike the other parties, and perfectly understandably in the circumstances, UKIP's national campaign was being conducted out of Farage's constituency and not a London office. It is inevitable that the Tories wanted to keep tabs on that campaign.

If it wasn't for electoral fraud then UKIP would be in power with a majority of 100. Fact.

It would be a shame for him to resign again wouldn't it?

    Edit: or is it sham?
