S3 - Cumulative Distribution Function - Related Variables watch

    The Length, X, of a square has a uniform distribution over the interval from 1 to 6. Find the probabillity density function of Y, the area of the square.

    I have made a simple error somewhere but really cannot spot it. My p.d.f should be 1/10(y^(-1/2)) but I am getting 1/5(y^(-1/2)) in the interval between 1 and 36 ...Name:  image.jpg

    Oh..is it because X is 1 to 1 over the required interval??

    I haven't read all the way through, but notice that you know that the random variable X is positive valued. Therefore when you come to calculate P(X^2 < y), you only need to consider the positive square root.
