Your chances of being able to work your way up, getting sponsored to do an engineering degree and then getting commisioned are very low to none at all. Especially if you don't even have the required grades to get you onto a BTEC.

How old are you? If you're still young enough, redo your GCSE's. You only need 4 A-C's to get onto a BTEC in engineering, one of these must be maths (which might need to be a B). Then from there just work hard at the BTEC and that'll get you onto a degree. To get a commision in the RAF that like you to have 5 A-C's, one of these being English Lang and one being maths (But if you get on the BTEC you'll have maths anyway).

But if you join as a leading aircrwman, you will get excellent training and if your good and prove yourself you have a very good chance of becoming a chief technician, have an excellent career and a very fulfilling life. With a chace to see and do things that most people never will.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear. There's always a way, go and speak to your local AFCO for advice.

I don't mind not being able to become an engineering officer, on the website it says that the pay is £15k to £36k. Do you know the pay scales etc for being a tradesman?

This is a link to the pay scale for non-commisioned ranks. Hope this helps.
