Hi I first did work experience at 16 and I went to a local hospital for 2 weeks spending time at various departments (a&e, pediatrics, theatre, radiology, surgery clinics etc), I also at that age went to a nearby GP practice for 2 weeks. Now I'm a bit older I have done experience abroad, in care homes and done a phlebotomy course. In terms of what most medical school looks for they would like to see variety, they'll want some care home/ hospice work, preferably some hospital work and any other experience you can get Not all of your work experience has to be medicine related (I teach at a local dance school for example) they really love you to show that you are committed and stick to your work experience too and don't just do it for a week.

Generally hospitals won't allow you to do work experience in clinical areas before the age of 17 or 18. You could always double check with the hospitals you're interested in though. How old are you now?
