MD and MBchB, what's the difference?

Hey, i'm thinking of doing an MD next year (6year course abroad) mainly because i didn't get any offers from UK med schools but what's the difference in the qualification? I always thought it was just what non uk med schools give but from reading another thread about going on to do PhD and MDs after medicine it got me kinda confused.
does having an MD mean you are more qualified than having an MBChB?
i'm v confused
i think they are equivalent to each other . well i presume MBBS MBchB are as not all uk med schools do MBchB some do MBBS i think.

ur not goin to that westindian/ caymand islands ?

i wouldnt reccomend this at all , gonna be very expensvive and i dont think the GMC recognises that as a valid course for u to work here.

Yeah, if you qualify from a non-EU school, you may have to take the PLEB, or another postgrad exam, before you can get a job in the UK.

Otherwise, MD (from another country that is; here in the UK, the MD is a postgraduate master's degree, but they're completely different qualifications) is the rough equivalent to MBChB/MBBS/BMBCh etc. Though I think with an MD from the US, you're automatically fully registered with their equivalent of the GMC, wheras here you're only fully registered after the F1 year.

Here, the MD is a doctorate, not a masters...

Yes.

It's another name for Trust Grade, cos that's where all the 'darkies' ended up. :p:
Aha. Ok, glad we cleared that one up.
