Well done  I sense that a lot of progress has been made

Congratulations on many things - doing well in MUN, surviving an interview, improving in Biology and making timetables - sterling effort. And good luck with Head Boy/response from your interview/sutton trust application!

Don't beat yourself up too much from doing a difficult paper - it's so easy to doubt yourself but it's good that you're making these mistakes now and those R papers should be great practice for the real thing.

    Good luck with your week

Thank you!! Yes a lot of progress has been made, just need to focus on exams now!

I'll try not to haha, after maths today I was speaking to my maths teacher about that mock and she said I did fine and thinks I got 90%?!?! I really do not think that's the case lol, I was almost in tears during the exam. Even if I don't get 90%, she said I'm still predicted an A which is good. Loads of people in class went from A to C predictions after that mock!!

Good luck with your week too!

Core maths was generally good. Sine and cosine rule which is just GCSE recap! Got my trig equations assignment back and got 96%, pretty chuffed considering finding it the most difficult core maths assignment so far. Just need to get some more practice done and I'll be fine for the exam. Mechanics was hard. We started moments and to begin with it looked promising. But we zoomed through the whole chapter in 10 minutes. It's fairly obvious I struggled during the rest of the lesson...

Our first history lesson was cancelled, getting rather worried about all these cancellations tbh. Luckily I'm using my initiative and just reading ahead! Our Germany lesson we started the economics chapter which I'm super duper happy about! I've been waiting since September for this... Pretty interesting stuff, economics and policy between 1918-23 in Germany.

At home, I've stuck to my new revision timetable and today was C1 graphs and functions. Feeling much more confident on that stuff. Also decided to look at the mock paper solutions and worked through the questions I found difficult. Then I finished off the day with getting my head around moments seeing as I struggled with it in class. Looking back on it, I'm confused why I struggled with it as it's generally simple maths. I just think our teacher went through it too fast...

Anyway, a good productive day! Roll on the UCAS trip tomorrow!

So today was another really good day and was the UCAS Bristol Exhibition trip! However I did still have one lesson, politics, which wasn't too bad although we were given another 25 marker. So many essays it's unbearable! Oh well, it's all for the greater good.

The UCAS trip was really interesting and informative. With a few of my friends, we went around most of the stalls and I picked up pretty much every prospectus for the unis I'm at least vaguely interested in. I also asked questions about GCSE results and AS FM. Bath said my results were fine, as did St Andrews, and although they said FM wouldn't make me more competitive they said it would provide good prep for the course. So I'm definitely doing AS FM after both the approval of teachers and unis. I also went to see some of the companies and their apprenticeship schemes - all were great, however KPMG's sponsored degree is very enticing.

Obviously I'm going to research more into the unis, however I'm fairly set on applying to:
    - Surrey
    - Bath
    - St Andrews
    - Reading
    - Cambridge (if I get 95% average)
    - Exeter (if I don't get 95% average)

Just need to work really hard from now until June to achieve the AS results I need!

Once I got home I arranged all the lovely prospectuses on my shelf in alphabetical order, really pushing the boat out lol, and then revised a fair chunk of C2. Managed to cover all the algebra stuff, binomial expansion and trig equations in 3 hours! Tomorrow is kinematics revision, eeeek, haven't done this stuff since November lmao. This is going to be interesting.

Tomorrow is also... 9 WEEKS TO GO - WE ARE IN SINGLE FIGURES LADIES AND GENTS

Okay so fingers crossed this helps...

    GCSEs: 1A*, 5As, 5Bs
    Spoiler:
    Show
I was kind of disappointed with these, my mocks were pretty much all A*s and some of my marks were really disappointing. I was 7 marks in total off 1A*, 7As and 3Bs and OCR lost some coursework so it could've even been 1A*, 8As and 2Bs. But luckily it has motivated me to do really well for my AS exams, and I really know every mark counts.

In my school, we generally did really badly and I somehow was still in the top 25 people of the year. So that's probably the only reason why I'm sort of okay with my grades.
AS subjects: Maths, Biology, Politics and History
    Spoiler:
    Show
I really enjoy maths and politics and luckily I'm getting good marks in these subjects. However biology I'm finding tough and history is a bit all over the place lmao. I do regret my options, I wish I had picked maths, FM. politics and history.
    What I want to achieve:
    Spoiler:
    Show
AAAB in Maths, Politics, Biology and History
90%+ average in Maths and Politics
St Andrews Summer School to do Economics with Management
    PwC Insight Week placement
    Looking forward to the future:
    Spoiler:
    Show
A*AA overall in Maths, Politics and Biology/History
EPQ on something economics related (e.g. impacts of leaving the EU)
Place at a good university (St Andrews/Bath/Exeter etc.) to study Economics
    Current Stats:
    ALPS: BBBB
    Predicted: AABC (M, P, H, B)
    Target: AAAB (M, P, B, H)
    Current: AABB (M, P, H, B)
(current and predicted grades updated termly)

    Dec Mocks: AABD (M, P, H, B)
    March Mocks: TBC

    Most recent Maths mark: A - 96% - C2 trig equations assignment
    Most recent Politics mark: A - 84% - essay
Most recent Biology mark: C - 56% transport test
Most recent History mark: C - 65% - Germany essay
    My modules:
    Spoiler:
    Show
    Maths - C1, C2, M1
Politics - People and Politics and Governing the UK
Biology - Biochemistry, Cells, Exchange and Transport and Genetics
History - Germany 1918-89 and Fascist Italy

I didn't really do much revision.

If you want all A*/A grades, from now should be good.

    16/03/16 - 62 days to go!
    Another tiring but productive day!

Didn't go to tutorial because selected people were invited to this Grant Thornton presentation and Q&A session. Interesting but I still think PwC is more for me if I were to go down that route. Got my politics homework finished in my free and then in history we did a debate on whether Mussolini's FP caused the Italian Empire's downfall. We also started the chapter on the relationship between Hitler and Mussolini. Double politics was mediocre. We went through whether pressure groups help or hinder democracy, I said hinder in my essay and I think it went okay? Our teacher is a harsh marker so I'm aiming for around 18 ish.

In between my double politics I got an email saying I had secured the work experience at PwC!!! I was so so so happy after attending the open evenings and insight day - I didn't want to let my parents down and also only get a little glimpse of the business world. The application was stressful, but I'm so glad I went through it and any future application at PwC can be fast tracked because it was such an extensive process.

At home I got all the stuff I needed to get done. Revised kinematics for M1 and C2 trig, fingers crossed the trig equation test goes okay! Without a doubt the hardest topic so far in the core AS modules.

Got some 10 markers back for politics, 8/10 on both which was good considering she struggles to bring herself to give more than 7/10 lmao. Tomorrow is going to be fairly uneventful, but isn't most of sixth form? Just a few exciting days here and there...

Okay I'm going to be super quick.

School was decent, revision was good although I'm a little behind because I planned a bit too much! I can catch up tomorrow.

I got my maths mock and got an A, with 89%. I was pretty chuffed with my result because I had found the paper so hard and wasn't even sure I'd get a B on it. 67/75 isn't bad, 4 of those marks were lost from really silly errors. Just need to work more on stopping these silly errors.

So today was interesting to say the least...

First biology lesson was cancelled however we were given cover work and I actually did it during when the lesson was meant to be! Kudos to me lol, first time ever. Our second biology lesson was still on and we got our mock exam back! Think back to December and I was devastated getting a D, in this one I got...
    Spoiler:
    Show
AN A!!! :woo::woo::woo::woo::woo::woo::woo::woo:all the hard work paid off!
Then in politics we were discussing the budget and generally we thought it was quite good, however there was a big focus on the sugar tax. I suggested using the income to subsidise healthier foods and there was a general consensus that it was good idea.

Luckily because it's Friday, I got to leave early and about 5 minutes away from home I got an email and got pretty excited because emails at strange times = something exciting/development. You know how I was put on the waiting list for the Peterhouse residential and that I was happy to not be outright rejected? Well someone dropped out and I was emailed to take over their place, so I'm going to Cambridge for two days at Peterhouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Words cannot explain how happy I am because it really does prove that the more you put in, the more you get out! It will be great because I can experience university and see whether Cambridge is for me. If it is, it will act as a huge motivator because I'll get a glimpse of life at one of the most prestigious universities in the world and I won't only want to get a glimpse but will want to experience it as an undergraduate. I'll be off in 19 days!

Then a few hours later, I got an email saying my application for Head Boy was approved and I'm now at the interview stage - where roughly half of those who were nominated go. At the interview stage we have to give a talk for 5 minutes and then have an interview with the top dogs. If I'm honest I'm not too bothered if I don't get it, in the grand scheme of things it's just a title and something to put on your CV that isn't always cared about.

Back into reality, due to the excitement of all these developments with Cambridge, PwC and head boy - I haven't been able to concentrate too much and only got a solomon paper done. Did pretty well I think, 61/75. When I do percentages, I scale it up 10% so I can (very roughly) bring it in line with some kind of UMS score. Currently I'm predicting myself 89UMS which is what I got in the mock, so I'm thinking it's pretty accurate. I'm also very tired after a long week, luckily it hasn't been as stressful as last week!

Blimey time really is flying! I did some work but not as much as I would have liked, however I was not feeling too good because of this vile cold

I got some biology revision done, that's about it...

    20/03/16 - 58 days to go!
Again not very well... however I got more stuff done. I did my trig applications assignment, politics essay, all of my history work and then filed the past few weeks' work into my folders.

Hopefully I'm better tomorrow and for the rest of the week. Luckily term ends on Thursday, and then it'll be the most crucial part of revision IMO. The easter holidays give plenty of time to go over everything, attempt past papers and really work on your weaknesses. I've planned for a rigorous two weeks, along with some time to rest and of course the Cambridge residential!!

This weeks looks to be busy with a politics mock and head boy interview (both on the same day - why?!). I'm also getting everything arranged for getting to Cambridge, so that should be fun train is £70... perhaps the bus I guess?

I also get my last mock exam back! Although it was a full paper, I'll only give the grade and marks for the first two essays because the third essay we hadn't finished the topic and so doesn't reflect my ability. Really hoping for a B, although getting AAAC in my mocks isn't something to complain about! Much better than AABD!

Just need to get better and get rid of this bloody cold. It's the last thing I need.

Forgot to say - I get my final report for my AS subjects this week!!

I'm taking whatever grades I get on that report as the grades I'll achieve if I do not put in any additional effort. I think I'm going to be predicted AABC, best scenario AABB and absolute worst scenario ABCD.

Cold is still with me and it's made today really unbearable and unproductive. First maths lesson was okay, we had a trig test and I think I aced it with 10mins to spare! Once you get your head around it, trig equations is a really nice (and fun!) topic. Mechanics was awful, we rushed through moments more and I need some time to go through it. Got my statics assignment and got 100%, but I don't think I'd be able to reproduce that because it was done so long ago and I've been focusing on other things... History was alright with more Germany economics and the effects of Hitler's supposed recovery. Italy was cancelled because all the teachers had to go to an OFSTED meeting in prep for tomorrow.

Because I'm ill, it took a while to get properly into work but in the end managed to do some mentoring prep, lots of politics notes and I started to finish my head boy presentation but I really can't be asked with it. Guess I'll have to do it tomorrow.

    Hope tomorrow's better.

I'll be posting yesterday's entry later this evening, although I would like to do a post about my head boy presentation thing.

So a few weeks ago I got a letter saying I was nominated for Head Boy and would have to submit an application if I wanted to go for it. I did just that and was luckily enough to be one of 11 boys to be invited to the presentation/interview stage. Today was that stage, and unfortunately I did not progress onto the interview stage. My presentation was good, however everyone were really strong applicants and it was so close. The competition was very high, higher than anything I've done before.

There are approx. 100 boys in Y12, and so this interview stage had the top 10% of boys, or top 5% of the people within Y12. Even though I've always wanted to be head boy, I'm not sad that I don't have it because:

    a) it will give me time to focus on my studies, especially when I start FM next year
    b) the competition was so high, it was the very best of the best against each other and so I know I haven't failed
    c) my presentation was delivered confidently and clearly, and I can't really kick myself because I tried my absolute best

So yeah, although I'm a little disappointed I'm not upset. In the grand scheme of things it wouldn't have made much of a difference and everything happens for a reason!

Politics, mechanics and biology were all decent. We started vectors which seemed alright and are about to begin the civil liberties topic in politics. In biology we are now doing diversity, which I thought was going to be boring but we were watching what was essentially animal porn. Interesting...

Got my trig test from the day before back, thought I aced it but I didn't lol. Got 85% which was the highest in the class, and dropped 6 marks. 2 marks from a really stupid error and 4 marks from what was what I found an easy question but I obviously didn't understand it. The question I dropped 4 marks I got 6/10 and I looked at the averages and the mean mark for that question from someone who got an A* was 5/10 - so although I only got 85% overall, I didn't do too badly.

Did some politics revision and head boy presentation prep.

    23/03/16 - 55 days to go!
Today was the head boy presentation/interview day! My thoughts are on post no. 79 on this thread. In summary I didn't get it lol.

History was awful and I'm not too sure why. Politics I got an essay back which I thought I had cocked up on, and got 21/25 from a really strict marker. First time she ever wrote excellent on one of my essays lmao.

Didn't do any work after school because I was exhausted. On the plus side, my work experience for august was confirmed with the date I wanted!

    24/03/16 - 54 days to go!
    LAST DAY OF TERM YAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAY!
First lesson was cancelled and second lesson was just a muck about on the computers. School finished early so we all just went home!

Once home I had a nice nap and watched a NK documentary. Thrilling stuff. Then decided to test myself on what I really have taken in and revised since September with Biology. Surprisingly quite a lot and managed to get 84UMS on a past paper. Need to be more specific though in my answers and revise the bits I got wrong. Luckily there was only one small question I didn't know what the answer was!

Went through the paper, corrected my answers and noted down the areas I need to revise over the holidays. Will be doing another past paper soon.

I then chilled for a bit because I'm shattered. This term's been stressful and it was only 5 weeks lmao. I decided to do a C1 paper to keep my brain ticking and myself on track for finishing as many papers as possible including the solomon and bronze/silver/gold papers. Did a bronze paper and got 73/75. Now going to move onto the silver in April and then gold in May.

The only bit I got wrong was a weird graph question, although I now know what to look for in the future so I don't trip up in the real thing!
