I am planning to use this blog as a way to hold myself accountable for all my actions. If anyone seeks me slacking, please do berate me!
I think the way I will use this thread is that at the start of the week I will set myself some goals and by the end I will critically assess how successful I've been.

I really hope this works coz I do not need a repeat of last year.

Thanks and I got a C! I have never been below a B in life before that, so it was a HUGE shock to say the least. Aiming to get back to As and A*s this year tho!

A few tips I found from good old MrMackyTv, copying them here for future reference

Here are some study tips that might help others in my situation, I used these last exam week in order to achieve the grades/levels above:

Be persistent.Use the Pomodoro Technique (google it if you don't know), it is a really effective way of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.

Listen to some Focus music on Spotify or something to help you concentrate!

Be organised and neat with work so you can easily review it later when you need it.

If your struggling, ask the teacher (or friends) or do some research by yourself on the internet to help you understand. Things like YouTube, BBC Bitesize et cetera...

Be creative with notes, don't just write them out, highlight important things to remember and keywords.Don't just copy from a textbook, you won't understand (well I don't). Instead read the textbook then when you're making the notes try to put it into your own words, simplify it so it can be easier to comprehend.

I drank lots of caffeine (especially coffee because it is slow-release) during exam season to make me more alert and do stuff... quickly It actually helps most people but I wouldn't recommend drinking any quick-release caffeine or drinking it after noon because it is going to be hard to go to sleep.

On that note, get LOTS of sleep.

Also on that note, read your notes/textbook/work before you go to bed because it will be easier to remember.

Find out your learning style. You could be an audio learner, visual, kinesthetic... I am mostly a visual learner.

Plan ahead, if your going to do 2 hours of studying tomorrow make sure you do that, if you only manage to do 1 hour don't let that discourage you. You can always make up for it the next day, maybe the next day your planning to do 2 hours but since you missed out on 1 hour that day you add it on to make 3 hours. Just have that mindset and it will get you through it (like it did for me ).

Don't stress, more you do the more likely you are going to freak out mid-test and possibly fail.

Hiya

This looks great!

(Excuse my ignorance) What is the HPAT?

Renew my love of reading
And this is a very worthy goal- what kind of books do you like reading?

There are six stages in the technique:

Decide on the task to be done
Set the pomodoro timer to n minutes (traditionally n = 25)
Work on the task until the timer rings. If a distraction pops into your head, write it down, but immediately get back on task.
After the timer rings, put a checkmark on a piece of paper.
If you have fewer than four checkmarks, take a short break (3–5 minutes), then go to step 1
Else (i.e. after four pomodoros) take a longer break (15–30 minutes), reset your checkmark count to zero, then go to step 1

The stages of planning, tracking, recording, processing and visualizing are fundamental to the technique.
In the planning phase tasks are prioritized by recording them in a "To Do Today" list. This enables users to estimate the effort tasks require.
As pomodoros are completed, they are recorded, adding to a sense of accomplishment and providing raw data for subsequent self-observation and improvement.
For the purposes of the technique, a pomodoro is the interval of time spent working. After task completion, any time remaining in the pomodoro is devoted to overlearning.
Regular breaks are taken, aiding assimilation.
A short (3–5 minutes) rest separates consecutive pomodoros. Four pomodoros form a set. A longer (15–30 minute) rest is taken between sets. A goal of the technique is to reduce the impact of internal and external interruptions on focus and flow.
A pomodoro is indivisible. When interrupted during a pomodoro, either the other activity must be recorded and postponed (inform – negotiate – schedule – call back) or the pomodoro must be abandoned.

No worries! It is the Irish medical entrance exam. Basically another, but hopefully nicer, UKCAT.

Literally everything! Recently, I've started to get more into non-fiction, stuff like The Guardian and NYTimes. Don't know how credible a source this is, but The Huff is a personal fave.

But I've always been a fiction kinda gal. I really want to get back into novels. I love most genres, and to trying something new I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I'm reading the book and I'm slow, I haven't quit yet. And if you truly believe that, you haven't wasted 2.5 hours of your life watching Austenland. I have. I've been there, I've seen things you can't even dream up.

Again, managed this week's lecture notes, but not any previous
HPAT? lol nope
Watched a TED on spam email, so not med related in the least. But I did start an article from a consultant's POV on the JDS (The Independent)
Actually got up to date on the Depression stuff and managed to do more essays ahead of the deadline!
I better get a move on with these bio notes, considering I am now doing one more bio exam than I had previously thought.

A so so week to be fair.
