Help!

Hey I'm an AS student looking to enter uni in 2008 but with recent university roadshows and browsing of multiple prospectus' I've set my heart on Aston.

I'm just wondering if ALIS predictions come into the matter when the university is analysing your situation? I mean I'm predicted CDD with them which is a load of garbage and I'm currently sitting on ABB with me resitting one of the B's in June and the other B in January. Any help on that matter would help? Also I remember speaking with a Connexions lady a couple of months ago about possibly going to Durham uni and she was asking where I live in order to assess whether I would be elligble for certain flexibilites when it comes to obtaining grades due to the fact that I live in an area that suffers from high unemployment in consideration to the national average. She mentioned how some universities have quotas of how many people from difficult backgrounds and areas that they have to accept, I'm wondering if Aston use such a policy or not. I understand not many people will be able to help but they might be someone out there.

Also I'm unsure of what I want to do at the end of university although it's going to have to be something business orientated and interesting, I've thought about careers such as being an accountant, economist, retail manager, HR manager etc. but haven't decided on either/or. So I was considering doing either Business and Management or Economics and Management, could anyone possibly suggest which one will be able to open more doors and give me more oppurtunities for when I go out job hunting?

Thanks in advance.

No I think they take into account the predicted grades your teachers submit but I could be wrong.

Hi and welcome to tsr. Its nice to hear that you've set your heart on Aston. I hope to go there myself, should i get the grades.
If ur predicted CDD at the moment, and are currently sitting on ABB, I'm sure your teacher can change your predictions to atleast BBB after your resits. I don't know of astons policy on how many people they accept from difficult backgrounds, but you may wish to e-mail the admissions office. and between Business and management and Economics and management, i would go for the economics and management. I think taking econ opens more opportunities and should put you in a good position when job hunting. Hope i've helped!!

Thanks sunny that is really helpful, I can get the grades with the hardwork, it's just letting Aston know I have the potential without my 'predictions' ruining my chances.

I'm not so worried about being allowed some flexibility with the grades, I should be able to get the grades, it's just the fact that if I don't, I want to know that if there is anything I can do to help my application I know about it, if you get what I mean of course.

And as for the choice of course cheers, extremely helpful!

Although im not familiar with EAM's subject streams, BAM allows you to have a broad first year of 12 subjects and after that you can choose to specialise in two areas which interest you. I was in a similar position and have found the general first year to be very helpful indeed.

For example my current subject streams are HRM and Business Law, and im going to be working at IBM on placement doing a business support role. It gives you such an opportunity to develop a broad range of skills. However, this may also be true of EAM, have a look at the course outlines for more information!
