Write an equation showing the products of the equilibrium which is set up when iodic(I) acid is mixed with ethanoic acid.

    HIO + CH3COOH

How do you know which one will act as the acid, and which one will act like a base?

The stronger acid of the two will always act as the acid. Have you been given Ka or pKa values? If you haven't, I would assume that iodic acid is a strong acid (i.e. it completely dissociates) and will therefore act as the acid
