Diapezam/Valium?

Has anyone ever tried diapezam (valium) for anxiety attacks? Im on citalopram but Im still having severe anxiety attacks at night and terrible deprresive moments still duiring the day although the citalopram has made me a bit more relaxed. So has anyone tried it? How good is it and what does it make you feel like?

lol. diazepam is not what you need most likely.

I got put on diapezam for a bad back... oh dear. Anyway when i took the stuff all it did was make me fall asleep. I know it's not the same as depression, but the doctor just told me it would relax my muscles and make me sleepy. (which it most certainly did.)

yep, its a muscle relaxant/minor tranquiliser.

Its not even the right benzo for fast acting attacks.

(bad back @ matt)
benzos are seriously, seriously addictive. a staggeringly large proportion of people who start with them can virtually never go back to not using them. if there is any alternatives that are not from the benzodiazepine family i would recommend asking for that.
Ive had it for my back aswell. Does its job.

I'm sorry but that's such rubbish. People who use them as a total crutch and do nothing but sit at home all day eating benzos are going to be addicted to them, but that's true of cigarrettes, alcohol, paracetemol and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Benzos aren't some kind of super-heroin. And I don't think a large portion of people end up taking them forever because doctors wouldn't prescribe them forever.

A lot of the time valium is prescribed alongside things like citalopram in the early stages as it takes so long to kick in and can initially increase anxiety. I've taken escitalopram for anxiety before and all it did was make me feel very ill, do nothing for my anxiety, and make me very very lethargic and depressed.

The first time you take valium you feel drunk (works on the same part of the brain as alcohol), I found myself walking into things! But that doesn't last, those types of effects wear off very quickly. It makes me feel generally happy and liberated. You can feel a bit tired and relaxed but it really does depend how much you take. It does lower inhibitions like alcohol does so you might find you're more talkative and disposed to saying what you're thinking, rather than what's appropriate.

If SSRIs aren't working for you then I see no reason not to try benzos (valium is the one they tend to give people since it works as well as anything else), there's no point suffering with anxiety unecessarily. I would recommend that you take it as need though, as opposed to whatever dose you're given (which will most likely only be a guide anyway). I

t has a very long half life so if you're taking it very regularly then it does build up and you just get increasingly sedated. I have really chronic anxiety and even when it's really bad I don't take more than 10mg in a week. When life's good then I might take 5mg in a whole month. Take it when you need it, not as a routine and then you probably won't find you get a 'addicted' to it or find that you're becoming tolerant to the effects. I find it gives me way more control over my anxiety than just routinely taking an SSRI because I can take it to relieve symptoms when I have them rather than just take something indefinitely and hope it gradually starts to make a difference to me.

That'll be like doing your exams drunk?!

The last thing I'd want when I'd do exams is anything that will sedate me!

Unless you have bad anxiety which means you can't sit in an exam hall, in which case that's exactly what you want.

I only had that attack in my whole life, i don´t take the pill for the exam. I have it in my wallet and if it happens i put the pill under my tongue and breath and drink some water, only in the case of this happens. It doesn´t happen with the other three exams that semester.
