What is your present job, believe me working for B&Q is no fun, they are so dis-organised.

Reply 2

I work as an arcade attendant, basically standing around for hours giving out change and picking up rubbish. Minimum wage, what more can I say, its really crap.

Whats it like at B&Q then?

Reply 3

Well maybe B&Q is slightly better least you will be actually doing something, but as a shop it is not somewhere where I would go, for reasons stated above.

Hmm. Would you be able to tell me what the "pay zones" mean? website says the store is in pay zone D.

Reply 5

That's a new one, never heard that one before.

Do they train you up on stuff like DIY advice? Know a bit about certain things but I bet you'd get asked a lot about lighting, plumbing etc when there's not a tradesperson around to offer advice.

I worked at b&q for ages! My interview was really easy, they asked every interview question possible though, but it was just a one-on-one interview with 1 supervisor.. I then got called 2 hours later and told I got the job. But recently they started doing 3 stage interviews, a group interview and if you got through that a interview with the actual store manager, then you would have to go on the shop floor and sell a product.

I actually liked working there, people I worked with were great and I had absolutely no clue about DIY but picked up on it so quickly, learnt where pretty much everything in the store was within about 2 months.

The pay was really good.. with the zone allowance I think I got about £7.20? And then time 1/2 on sundays...and double pay on bank holidays! So if you worked just a couple of hours on a bank holiday you'd make quite a lot.

I actually liked the uniform, the orange aprons grew on me!

Only bad thing I can say is that every single manager was a complete arse! Obviously dumb as **** and only cared about how they looked.

Hope that helps!!

just above adult min wage, tbh i work in b and q and have done for 15 yrs,i wouldnt recommend it for anyone, except people that want part time work, they NEVER take on full time, unless you are a manager

Reply 14

you can apply but in my experience (ive been working there 8 months) its awful, i would not recommend the job to anyone i had a previous employer for 2 years and never had any issues but B&Q are secretive, rude and insensitive of their staff's needs. I would strongly advise against it

The place is a carsey, Many of the customers are rough ignorant so and so's. They are only in the store for half an hour at most yet they all want to use the toilets; the same toilets that staff have to use. If not a checkout operator you will never hardly be on tills, then when the store is thronging with people, they will insist you 'jump on one of the tills', This is akin to learning to drive a car on spaghetti junction. I might add their tills are absolute rubbish and are always playing up. If you want a retail job avoid B&Q
