Why am I so bad with alcohol nowadays?

When I was younger, like most people I could get wrecked and then feel fine in the morning. I'm now in my second year of uni and nowadays I always get such terrible hangovers, even if I haven't been that drunk the night before. I have never been someone who can throw up on the night and then be alright the next day - if I'm drunk then however much water I down before going to bed I seem to spend the entire next day being sick and feeling like death. Even if I just have a few drinks quite often I'll feel headachey and really ridiculously tired just after drinking them, almost like a pre-hangover. I know hangovers are meant to get worse as you get older, but why is this and can anyone give me any tips as to how to handle alcohol better? Most of my friends seem to manage to get away with it, dammit!

I think it's a sign - stop drinking as much :p:

Yoda must suggest lucozade during the evening, and perhaps some more in the morning if you do not feel so happy.

Why has Yoda switched to third person recently?

Isnt that a sign of schizophrenia?

Yoda is far too great to be addressed in the first person.

What are you normally drinking on a night out? Anything particularly toxic/weird combinations?

The most likely reason is that you used to sleep through the hangover.

You're getting old.

I'm suffering the same thing.
I go out, only have four or five pints whereas in my first and second years I would put away up to double that.
Now, I wake up with a marginal hangover and feel ****.
Guess the half five starts and long hours are to blame for that. :frown:

As a practical thing, make sure you're well hydrated and nourished before starting. That's not 'lining your stomach' but making sure that you've eaten two decent meals during the day and aren't dehydrated.
Make sure you rehydrate at least when you get in (two pints of water work well for me).
A few pints of water in the morning +/- alkaseltzer or beroca (?sp).

Obvious, you're getting old, i'm the same. They get worse as you get older, hence older people not drinking.
Hangovers do tend to get worse when you get older. My older cousin says he can feel the effects up to two days afterwards, when he used to be ok by the next night when he was younger. Might have to start limiting your drink  :p:

Sticking to vodka might help.

But yes, a fact of life when you get older.
just experiment which drink affects you the most and avoid it, normally the hang over really depends on the drink

I'm the same. I used to drink LOADS from say 16-19, as in, I used to drink until I passed out and ppl were close to calling ambulances etc. Not that I recommend that sorta thing, but I'm ust saying. I would ALWAYS wake up fine. Most of the time, I wasn't even drunk anymore the next morning, despite the huge amount of alcohol the night before. It worked well.
Now, I can't do it at all anymore. I just cannot drink AT ALL. And I mean that, I haven't had a drink in over a year, because the hangovers I get, even from just one cocktail or something, they're so goddamn awful, they're just not worth it. So I'm completely sober now. I miss being able to drink sometimes, but for nothing in the world would I do it again with the hangovers I get. It's weird, I thought it was just me, because early 20s or something isn't really "old". I would have thought age would start to matter at maybe around 30 or something.. And I know ppl much older than me who are fine, so I think it might be something else as well, although I have no idea what. Anyway. Stop drinking I say. It sucks, but it's not like it's bad for you :p:
Aw :p: Have a small meal, and drink water in btw drinks :yy:

Helps heaps 8)

Drinking girly drinks like Smirnoff Ice works. Only cheap n nasty vodka gives bad hangovers and with the huge amounts of water in a smirnoff ice, you can't fail to wake up feeling good.

Problem is, getting drunk on those things is so expensive!
