If people really are in control of their minds then why doesn't everyone choose to be happy?

I dont think humans have much control over their own thoughts it just comes naturally to them.

People are not in total control of their minds. Their thoughts, behaviour and reasoning is a product of their genetics, their upbringing, and to some degree the way they choose to redirect their thoughts. It's like a race driver, your prospects are mainly determined by the car you drive, but you still get to have some choice.
