Living alone in second year

Hey everyone!

I'd love to hear your experiences of living alone in second year. I'd love to hear especially what the average bills cost for one person per month, how hard is it to find a reasonable flat for one, and what can I expect to pay for a flat? I live in Glasgow btw.

I need to decide if I'm going to live alone or not really soon. I have some potential flatmates, however I'm not sure if I want to live with them since we're studying the same thing and I feel like getting to know people would be harder if I live with them, go to all lectures with them etc. Any other advice would be appreciated too!! Is living alone a good idea in your opinion, or should I just stick with my flatmates, even if I'm unsure about how that will affect my social life next year? I just don't like the idea of always being tied to someone, I'd always feel like I have to ask them to come to all socials etc. with me, although I really want to just do things on my own too, sit alone in lectures sometimes and so on. The main issue is money, if I was rich I wouldn't hesitate just to live alone. Thanks!
If living alone is what you fancy, then go for it. After 3 years of living with other people, next year I'm finally moving in into my own place and I'm quite excited! If you can enjoy your own company, it's great.

Now, to answer your query, we need to know where you plan on living and what your budget is!

Hi CozyCat,

It’s possible that we have some accommodation that would suit you!

Dunaskin Mill is a brand new choice of student accommodation opening in September this year. We’re based just off Dumbarton Road, about five minutes from the University of Glasgow and Byres Road.

We have a number of different options, but if you want to have your own space while still getting out to socialise, one of our studios might suit you? They start at £160pw which includes all your bills, 100Mb internet and contents insurance, making budgeting easy.

You’ll also have our great social spaces, including a huge games lounge, quiet study spaces and an outdoor courtyard we’ll use them to run lots of social events, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get to know your neighbours. We’ll also have staff on site 24/7 to help you when you need it and even an on site, private gym!

I’ve had a look at our plans for you, and would suggest either the Bronze Studios 108 or 109 both of the ground floor of Block 5, so you won’t have to spend anytime waiting around for a lift! or Studio 98, a Silver Studio on the sixth floor of Block 4, if you’d like views out over the River Kelvin and a bit more peaceful and quiet.

Does that sound like what you’re looking for?

You can also find out more on our website, www.freshstudentliving.co.uk.

Best wishes
Alison
