The Student Room Group

Coming to UEA soon!

Hi,
I have just firmly accepted my unconditional offer for Law with European Legal Systems at UEA.
I visited the campus in March and thought it was great- great atmosphere, great people. So I am really looking forward to the start of the course.
Would be pleased to hear form some of the current students or other people headed to UEA now just to already get to know some people and maybe be given some useful hints and tips on how to master student life at UEA.

Hi! I'm (hopefully) going in September too! My offer is for American Studies & I'm really excited
Wow, Law with European Legal Systems - sounds a bit daunting to me! Is that a 4 year degree with a year in Europe or something? I get a year in America and I can't wait!!

I love the campus! Loads of people had told me it was ugly because of all the concrete but I thought it was really unique & pretty.

Are you post A Level? On a gap year or something? I wish I had an unconditional offer!!

I haven't got any hints / tips on how to master student life but in september if all us 1st years stick together I'm sure it'll be fine! hehe

I love the UEA campus, people say it's all concrete, but I mean gimme a break, there's a massive field and lake out back, go enjoy it!!

I have been at UEA nearly a year now and the campus is fantastic. Especially now as the weather has been amazing, everyone sits in the square or on the grass by the lake to revise or chill, its brilliant.

Hey folks,

Kirsty here - planning to be at UEA in September for American Studies (snap kat_monkey! It's cool to know someone who'll be on the same course. The Year Abroad is gonna be amazing!).

Though it may be a bit more awkward to get to than, say, Sheffield, where my brother is at uni and can get a direct coach to, I had a great feeling about the department and Norwich is lovely, so I can't wait!

Applied for accommodation today, after a couple of failed attempts at registering. Hoping to get ensuite campus. Has anyone else applied for accommodation yet?

Hope to see you all in the Autumn!

Kirsty
I'm a first year at uea atm and I love the campus. Having all the concret lumped together allows for huge areas of green to have fun in.:p:

You will more than likely get it as there are 7 halls on campus that are ensuite
Browne House
Kett house
Victory House - woo hoo, yeah thats where i live
Paston House
Britten House
Constable terrace
Nelson Court

you forgot Colman House. That's another huge one with en suite rooms.
Reply 11
Oh yeah, how could i forget that, its probably the biggest one!

which one is the best out of the ones gemma listed

Browne House - Where I live so clearly the best :p: A bit away from the main parts of campus but not too much of a walk. Backs on to a reasonably busy road, but that's no big deal. Crap TV & mobile signal on one side, okish signal on the other. 60 rooms, 6 flats. Pretty much all international and gap year students.

Kett house - Near Browne house, smallest block on campus. International students mostly as far as I'm aware.

Victory House - woo hoo, yeah thats where i live.

Paston House - Quite a large block, runs parallel to University drive, but it's a bit set back from the road so traffic noise shouldn't be too bad.

Britten House - Newest block on campus - they've just finished building it so if you get a room at the end near Victory/Browne you'll be the first in your room, otherwise second, so still very new.

Constable terrace - Right over the other side of campus compared to most accomodation, but it's right near most departments so quite handy there. Bigger room sizes than the brand new accomodation, but the kitchens are a bit smaller. I think this accomodation is approx 10 years old now. Fully ensuite still.

Nelson Court - Same as Constable, but a stones throw away from the LCR/Union Pub  Also very close to the Lecture Theatres/Library. PieMaster lived there last year and could get a half decent TV signal (enough for freeview). Only downside I can think of for this accomodation is that you get pretty much everyone coming out from the Pub/LCR late at night. Not sure how much of this you hear in the rooms though.

Colman - Biggest of the new blocks of accomodation. Fairly close to the main parts of campus (i.e. the LCR).

With Colman/Browne/Victory/Kett/Paston you're looking leaving 10-15min before a lecture to get there in a comfortable time, about 5-10min for Nelson, not sure about Constable.

I don't think any particular accomodation is definitely the 'best', but Nelson is close to everything and has the largest rooms.

I am looking for accomdoation which is close to lectures and the library and shops and also accomodation wher eI dont have to hear loud people from pub lol. Which one is best?
Reply 15
Probably looking at Norfolk/Suffolk terrace (on campus non-ensuite) for that.
Reply 16
I need ensuite aswell btw phil haha
Reply 17
Probably Constable then - very close to most departments and a fairly short walk to the library. Also because it's a bit out the way you shouldn't have many people heading back from the pub (except the people who live there, obviously)

To be fair, most of the halls are close to campus but obviously some more close than other, nelson court would be extremely close to the pub and lcr for noise. Britten and paston are the next closest and of course constable. It depends on what people class as close cause i would say i am close enough living in victory house.
So it's settled.

upon arrival, everyone here is obliged to get smashed

btw. nobody agreed on this, this is the rule I'm setting down
