# Wilcoxon matched pairs test - HOW TO RANK DATA? watch

1. Hi there I'm struggling with the concept of actually ranking data, particularly when it comes to a situation where the data is replicated more than 3 times e.g. there are four 6's in a data set.

I know you start by giving the smallest value the lowest rank, so 1 and so on.
But what happens if you have, like I said, four 6's, how would you assign a rank then?

Ties receive the average of the ranks they span. So 1, 2, 6, 6, 6, 7 would end up with ranks 1, 2, 4, 4, 4, 6.

When you say average do you mean the median?
