I feel really stressed about exams

Like REALLY freaked out, I'm serious like nothing else in my whole entire life is impacting me as much as these exams, I have two and they are in June I know.

But the thing is, I have two essays to get through, and I'm scared that they won't be what the lecturers want. For instance, I recently handed in a draft of one and one of them ripped it up in front of me saying it was pathetic (wasn't what he was after) ??

I thought I was writing the essay like he wanted, but apparently not (I didn't stick to the question, and went off in a tangent  ). I really wanna pass both these courses, but I don't know what to do. My friends are like 'chill out' but how can I?!? :frown:

My mum bought me some "drops" that are meant to relieve stress. I'm a little pesimistic but am giving them a try. AM sure there are tons out there but the ones i have are called "Bach, Rescue Remedy". I think she got them at Holland and Barret so theres a starting place to look.

Hmm, calming herbs. Haven't thought about those since first year, good idea. Although I'll prolly end up buying the executive, heavy duty brand.

So these drops, would they be sold at health food stores or similar?
Pressure!

Pushing down on me
Pressing down on you no man ask for
Under pressure
That burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

Bah bah dah bah bah dah
(Yeah) (Yeah)

That's okay!
It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Scream "Let me out!"
Pray tomorrow takes me higher
Pressure on people
People on streets

Bah bah dah bah bah dah
Okay!

Chippin' around
Kick my brains round the floor
These are the days
It never rains but it pours
Bah bah dah bah bah dah

People on streets
bah dah dee da day
People on streets
bah dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Scream "Let me out!"
Pray tomorrow takes me higher (higher)

Yeah!

Turned away from it all
Like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love
But it's so slashed and torn

Why? Why? Why?
Love(love)! Love(love)! Love(love)!

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love give love give love?
Give love give love give love give love give love?

Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care
For the people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our ways
Of caring about ourselves

This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves under pressure

Under pressure
Under pressure

Yeah they are sold at health food stores over here, and you can buy similar sort of stuff at places like Boots.

DB sweetheart, I know exactly how you feel :frown: I'm just so tired, angry, frustrated, feeling like a failure, and all these stressful feelings are just wrecking my concentration even further.

I've been making an effort to eat healthily and fight the urge to stuff myself full of pizza and red wine, and have a warm bath and a relatively early night (11pm max) every night. Hopefully my body will having a fighting chance against all this stress I'm subjecting it too then.

I'd like to say I'm exercising, but I'm not. If you can though, it always helped me during my degree finals. I am still riding the ponies once a week, always on a Sunday afternoon - gives me something to look forward to.

Apart from that, I think you just have to accept that you're stressed. Sometimes just accepting it, using the adrenaline to get work done, and then doing your best to look after yourself is the best thing. If you get stressed about being stressed, you're adding to the problem and it's a vicious cycle!! It's short term, it'll be over in 6 weeks or so, and then we can get back to normal, drop these 6lbs I've slapped on in pure chocolate and feel normal again

Take care hon

Whilst yoda has never had university exams, he can assume they are similar to other exams. Yoda always feels better after starting the first exam. Perhaps revising will calm danni_bella's nerves. We must bear in mind that after these exams you shall never have to take exams again. Yoda feels he is guaranteed good grades if he revises for an exam. Unfortunatly he often tries his luck.

Are the essays related to the exam? You may getting hours of revision on the essays without noticing.

Bog off Yoda, you can't even write in the third person very well, you tool.

Danni, I've PM'ed you :hugs:

personally, i have said this before, just be calm and put on some boxing gloves and punch the hell out of a ounch bag. it gives a little work out and relieves stress. After that i work.

Your lecturer is a jerk. What the hell did he think he was doing, ripping up a student's essay in front of them? What an arseball.

I know how you feel.

That was completely wrong of your tutor to do that. Maybe you should talk to him and explain that if you'd written something different to what he wanted, then he should have straight out said that.

If your friends attempt to say that again tell them they're not being helpful. That's all I ever get said to me and there's no point really.

I'd recommend Bach's Rescue Remedy as well, some Lavender oil, and to find someone to talk to who understands the stress inside and out. Excercise helps too.
starting to feel some exam stress too. Getting A's in Business and psychology. But a D in Maths  .Shocking :s-smilie: . The D kinda demotivated me.

I'm on D's in AS Maths too, and it's really getting me down after my A at GCSE. I really do wonder why I bother with Maths, cause the teachers are really bitchy and two faced, and very unhelpful. Like I asked one of my Core teachers a Mechanics question. A really simple one about where a line crossed a velocity/time graph, and she said "Sorry, I don't know the question, can't help you" Like WTF?! I showed her the damn question!

Sorry, it's off topic, but I need to get that out the way. I think it might be a trip to Holland and Barrett for me too!

What kind of lecturer rips up your work in front of you? Surely he could have explained where you went wrong and how to improve? Or is that not allowed at Uni?

For the people not liking maths, its just about doing practice papers. Even when yoda did not completely get it he kept practicing the question until he understood. And on AS the method is all the same, so you should be alright if you just revise it and don't really understand.

Yoda is also predicted to miss his offer, but he shall prove them wrong.

I am so stressed too. I've got 3!!! next week, the very first week of our exam period and they are the most difficult ones I have. I'd like to give the bright spark who deviced the exam timetable a good slap. Haven't really managed to revise for any of them very well, just a little for everything. And am currently procrastinating...

It's crap if your lecturer is being that unhelpful... Did he not give any kind of constructive feedback, like where you went wrong and so on. Anyway, when you write the essay make sure you stick to the question and analyse the theory well and relate it to the question. Don't flab around irrelevant or loosely connected stuff. You might want to ask your friends or older students to have a look at your essay and give you some hints with what to do with it.

With the AS maths stuff I had the same problem. I was predicted a U/E but I did loads of practice questions and really got down to basics and practiced the basic basic stuff until I got it good. Eventually managed to get a C, which was a real victory for me

um hello? yoda's advice was good

you guys need to calm down..exams are NOT a big deal..do some study and answer the question as best you can..that will at least guarantee a pass = win

god, exams are THAT meaningless in the scheme of things..that said, leave study till the last minute, and you really are screwing yourselves over

Yeah they really are a big deal actually. If I don't do well in my exams then I won't get a job, and if I don't get a decent job then I'll be living in a council flat watching Trisha all day.

It's not helpful to say they're not a big deal when clearly they're the basis for the rest of your life and therefore are very meaningful 'in the scheme of things'. Unless I get diagnosed with cancer tomorrow then exams will continue to be a huge source of stress to me at this time of year, as I'm sure they are to many others.

To the OP, if it gets really really bad, as in you feel really ill with stress, you aren't sleeping and you can't concentrate, then it might be worth going to the doctor to get something to give you a bit of a break from it. Herbal remedies are unlikely to work (depending what they are- something with Valerian root might do something). As for the Bach remedy stuff, it's just water with some alcohol in and not much else. It works no better than placebo.
wtf? Ripping up a students hard work without even offering advice? I would report him to the uppers tbh.

Exactly. If I get crap grades then I won't be able to continue with languages and eventually my knowledge will deteriorate.
If I did badly I'd probably end up with a job at Tesco. Woo :s-smilie:

Doctors aren't great about giving things out, and sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. Valerian was useless for me, whereas Bach's Rescue remedy works pretty well. The lady who does my acupuncture sweras by it. Just depends on the person.

OMG that's so true (although for me it would be Hughey's Cooking Adventures on Channel 9  ), thanks Puppy for that realistic motivational post!!
