My university is bullying me!

Well, not bullying, but I recieved an email from Manchester saying 'I just wanted to remind you that you haven't replied to our unconditional offer and as I recall from our email correspondence, you were quite pleased about the offer' etc etc. How should I reply? I do want to go to Manchester but my parents want me to wait and see what other offers I get first. I thought of replying:

Don't worry, my deadline is June 5th, my parents want me to wait until all the universities I've applied to give me their final answers on track (ie unconditional or rejected) just to see what they say. If I replied now, then my other offers would remain as 'conditional' (most of my other offers depend on A level biology) and I would never find out their replies if I declined them. I should hear from them sometime this month and I will therefore be replying nearer to the end of May than the beginning.

This is the truth, but what do you guys think? Does it sound weird? I guess it is a bit weird. I'm worried Manchester will withdraw their offer now...My mum says that if I reply to Manchester now then it will be to save face (because I will never know whether or not I got rejected from my other uni's) I want to show her this isn't true by waiting for a few more replies but I think it's putting my Manchester place in jeopardy. I would talk to my parents about it but I'm not on speaking terms with them at the moment! Any advice would be appreciated!

Once you've been given an offer on ucas it can't be taken back unless you lied on your application. So just keep waiting for your other decisions to come through....although you might get crappy accomadation the longer you leave it if it's first come first served.

It apparently can. I remember seeing KirstinX's case a few days ago where the offer had been changed once it had been made on UCAS.

Obviously it was a mistake because they've changed it back now.

Why would it change anyway? Results day isn't until August...

No no no, I took my biology in January! That means that in May (now) the universities will learn my results and I will get my replies from the universities.

Yeah, I just thought about that possibilty, hence why I deleted my post

By the time you posted that, I'd already posted my response. Sorry! I'll leave it there anyway so other people know the situation with my offers.

They are just trying to get you on board. I know that you are just checking your ego, but if you love Manchester then choose it. You are keeping places open at other unis that other students could fill.

Its not weird, universities use that kind of guilt trink all the time, but this one sounds more personal than usual

I'm not checking my ego, bastardo. My parents are checking their ego, I want to accept Manchester right now but I know they'll be hell to pay if I do. Did you even read my posts in this thread? I said that my mum thinks I'm trying to save face by accepting Manchester before I know my other replies (I didn't get the right grade in biology and I reckon I'll probably be rejected from all of the others) really, I know she'd never let it go. You don't know what she's like...

Also, when I said 'does it sound weird' I was talking about my proposed reply to the email (read it) because I know that it is weird for me to wait this long before replying and my reason for waiting is weird. And another thing, you criticise me for keeping places at other unis open when I don't need to but it's the unis' fault because if they'd just hurry up and reject me then their places would be free again.

They can't withdraw your offer unless you lied on your UCAS form, which you didn't, so as long as you reply by your deadline of June 5th, there's nothing they can do. But at the same time, if you know you want to go to Manchester even if you get unconditionals from everywhere else as well, withdraw your applications from all the others and reply now. It's not your mum's decision to make, it's yours, and if you'd be happier going to Manchester (and sorting it out now) just do it.

wtf? ignore it..

Reply 11

It's probably an automated e-mail and even if it isn't, so what? They won't withdraw an offer, because you want time

Hmm...I've just been looking at the thread 'Very angry with UWE' and Gloucester Dancer, the original poster, has had her application withdrawn because it was 'nearing the closing date'. Uhoh! Maybe Manchester can withdraw my offer. I think I'd better reply this weekend. You're not gonna believe this though, my mum has gone to Spain today for an operation on her hip, she won't be back for ages so I can't consult her...this is such a bad day! I really need to speak to her but obviously she has more on her mind than my life and also the phonecall will be expensive.

Oh so youve got an automated email, stop panicing and dont send that email off, it would look so friggin stupid. Manchester should not withdraw your offer, you have a deadline. Also dont the universities have a deadline to make an offer to you?

Reply 14

If you feel like you must reply then please take off the 'Don't worry' at the beginning. It sounds patronising.

Reply 15

i thought you couldnt reply to track until you had all your offers in anyway?

It wasn't automated it was actually from the admissions tutor because she said things like 'I remember when we spoke, you said...' an automated email wouldn't do that. The universities I've applied to have already given me conditional offers and they have met the deadline for doing this but the time when my offers are supposed to be updated to 'unconditional' or 'rejected' is either this month or august, UCAS aren't sure when they will reply so all I can do is wait.

You can't. You just have to cancel any outstanding choices, which can be done on track.

Accommodation may be more difficult if you carry on waiting, a lot of the private halls like Cosmo and Q3 are already full.

Yeah, stupid parents.
