And be hated by everyone. I'd rather be a clerk.
RAF Police

After you have completed your 9wks Basic Training at Halton you will go to Southwick Park (tri service provost training) for 18wks I believe. After which you will be given your warrant card and the acting rank of Cpl. The trade currently is PRIORITY which means that the selection process will take less time. Make sure you have the ability to demonstrate responsibility and you have confidence (be able to take charge of a situation). Also be aware you will have to do a tour as Dog handler.

This is a pinch point trade so the AFCO will welcome suitable candidates with open arms!!!

I hope this is useful and remember I'm 'Here to help'

Im currently in RTS for RAFP.

The trade training is now at 22 weeks at Southwick Park Police Defense College. First week of trade training is away doing adventurous training. Dog Handling training is a further 3 weeks at Melton Mowbry I believe. While at Halton if you ask your Flt staff, you may get to go down to the police/dog section that Halton has to see and speak to the police Flt there.

I had my Police Brief from the Police Flt at Halton on Thursday, he did warn that the trade training will be death by powerpoint (as is RTS) but it is the easiest way to learn the stuff.

Any questions let me know and I can ask my Flt staff.

Many thanks for your replies. The choice of military police seems to divide people, even those in the RAF.

Hickton - Are you enjoying it and how long did it take for you to go through the selection? What rank do you become after training, and what is the pay/promotion like?
Your friend needs to do some research with the AFCO because military police work is quite different to the civilian police force. There is no 'beat' work equivalent in the military police, and their powers to arrest, detain, investigate are quite different. The RMP website explains this in some detail.

I don't think there is much difference between the type of work done in the RMP or the RAFP. Though I presume the RMP is a much larger organisation. I think all Police are promoted to acting Corporal on qualification, but other than that, it doesn't have the reputation, at least in the RAF, of being a fast promotion trade. I presume promotion is very closely aligned to further qualifications.

As to pay, it will be standard for the rank and is available on the web or from the AFCO- try googling the Armed Forces Pay Review Body latest report.
