I received an offer for 2017 rather than 2016. Can I change this and ask to enter in 2016? I don't want to ask as it may seem rude...

They won't withdraw your offer if you ask, and the only way of finding out *is* by asking.

(They will probably say no - but if you don't ask you won't know...)

It depends why they deferred your year. There are two typical reasons. The first is that you would be under age and they felt an extra year's maturity would be to your benefit. The second is that they had an exceptionally good set of candidates that they didn't want to lose. Maybe they took you back from the pool and the alternative was no offer at all.

You won't get it swapped now, but if you get a favourable answer for why it was deferred and somebody misses their offer for your course at your college, you may be able to change. Inevitably this means that you may not know until August.

On the whole I would not assume that it will be easy to swap back.
