i get this every now and again, same with my shoulders. i do a bit of weight lifting but i dont think thats the cause.

ive tried cod liver oil, but it doesnt work. tell me if you find a cure...

Does it happen to others members or your family? Both my mum and I have creaky knees when we walk up stairs and we do a lot of walking.

WD40 is your best bet.

lol, i have it too, i wasnt worrying about it too much until the NHS radio advertisements, it went something like, '*creak*, if your floor sounds like this you need a plumber, bu if your knee sounds like this you need a doctor' this got me really worried but then i jsut forgot about it lol

Mine do it too ...never really thought about it really. I think it is quite common, not anything to worry about anyway.
I find takin calcuim tablets helps mine! I had dodgy knees anyway but after i injured knee during sport it got much worse but since starting takin calcium tablets i dont find i get the same pain in them, so maybe try that.

Heh.. aww, I read the thread title as 'crazy knees' and came in here expecting to find something really freaky. My knees and shoulders creak too though. Sometimes when I'm wearing my backpack I think my phone (in the pocket on my bag) is vibrating, but it's just my shoulder. :| I don't think it's a real problem.

Yeah, I get this quite often, basically on my left knee, whenever I move it.

Bit weird, sometimes it's uncomfortable, other times, it's jut a noise.
Glucosamine. Holland and Barrett.... do it!!! Now!!
ah i get this too but its everytime i bend down and its in both knees, i'm actually really self-concious of it cos many people have noticed it as its very loud when it happens lol, my aunty has the same thing and she cant walk very long distances without having to sit down for a while. Im guessing i'll be the same :frown:

I had a bit of juvenile arthritis in my knees. Then I grew up and it started to act a bit more like mature arthritis.

lol ... I used to have this quite bad, but only in the periods when I was having growth spurts - hence it came and went with bone growth, I guess. How old are you? Are you 'growing' (obviously, but ... yeah) at the moment?

18. Chondromalacia patallae was what I had.

Yeah I have this in both knees whenever I bend down. There was a thread a while back on this, and lots of people seemed to have it too. Don't know why, and I don't know a cure. I just hope I won't have arthritis when I get older.

Both my knees make a loud cracking noise everytime I squat. It's been like this as far back as I can remember. It tends to happen more to taller people I've noticed, which makes sense because I'm 6' 3" 1/2 or so.

Well, I'm quite tall (1m78) and I don't have it, whereas my physics teacher, who's way shorter than me, has it really bad... So I don't think it's really related to height...

You might want to see a doctor about it though, I'm not sure but I heard it's not really good... And even if it's totally normal, at least you'll get help form someone qualified who will be able to explain what it is and what you should or shouldn't do etc... Hope you'll get a better answer.

I have chondromalacia patallae pretty bad in my right knee, but that sounds more like a grinding noise. My mum has had problems with her knees as well. I think its genetic.
i dont think its anything to worry about. i have it too. sometimes only my left knee, sometimes both. sometimes it's just noise othertimes a lil pain. but looks like quite a lot of people have it, so dont think there's anything to worry about-as long as its just once in a while!!

Mine used to do that when I was about 14/15, also sometimes had a sort of crunching sensation, and random stabbing knee-pains. I think it was something to do with suddenly becoming 6'1", and my knees seem pretty normal these days now I've ceased getting taller.
