Project Management (Construction) Potential Salaries?

Hey,

As an alternative to finance, consulting and IB i've recently found myself interested in project management in the construction industry.

I'm struggling to find information on salaries within that sector.

Anyone know anything about graduate starting salaries and potential earnings within 5 years or so with companies like Mace, Turner & Townsend, CBRE, Taylor Woodrow etc...????

I know money isn't everything but i've been doing alright in uni - on for a 1st in Economics - Manchester, been lucky enough to get good work experience / internships within the big finance/accounting companies and would like to think i'll get a place on a pretty good graduate scheme allowing me to pay back student debts, live comfortably etc...

May sound shallow but if the money isn't good for project management then i can't help thinking i'll be better off doing a two year grad scheme within the finance/banking sector, earning some decent money and getting good experience and then moving into something i'm more interested in at a later date.

Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Hi there,

I found this recruitment website for you, it's the official RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors). Got some project management positions around the country with various levels of experience and salaries.

N.B. you may need to do a MSc in Project Management to be considered by some companies, but you may not. They will prob be happy to sponsor you through that too.

I think the trend is like many other careers. If you're good, then it could be 6 figure eventually, if you're not, then your not going to ever manage massive projects and then prob won't earn as much.

The average salary is around £31,000 to £36,000 per year.

My father and uncle are Project Managers. Six figure incomes are highly unlikely - about 1% and of those, they are either partners in construction companies, or own the construction company.

I guess compared to IB and other finance related roles, there's no competition income wise, but it's what will make you happy at the end of the day.

In London about £24-26k starting (graduate) £29k after about 18 months and rising. Probably tops out at about £45 ish. To get a six figure you're probably looking at directors in big companies but that said its a great job so go for it.

edit. check out RICS survey and building mag survey for other regions.
