Yep, go to debenhams, there are some in the lingerie department that tuck your tummy in completely, and noone will ever know. I wear it with dresses myself, I have such a big pop belly and its so embarassing :frown: .
Firstly, a corset and a basque are 2 different things.

A corset is usually defined as a restrictive piece of apparel that usually contains steel or whale bone and is laced to give a womanly figure.

A basque is a soft boned piece of apparel, that is usually underwear and is not restrictive.

What you're looking for is a pair of magic knickers, or an 'all in one' like this; http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_18459_203112_-1

I wouldn't advise wearing a basque under a dress like that, as basques are often 'frilly' and could be seen through the dress.

That dress is sooooooo lush, where is it from? It's stunning!

You really dont want a corset, you will not be able to sit in it for more than 5 mins before getting up and wheezing for breath, it's seriously restrictive! Magic knickers all the way!

Hi, i'm looking for a corset/basque for under my prom dress, just to give me a bit of lift and pull my tummy in! Can anyone recommend one that's not going to cost me a fortune?

You can get an underbust corset. try getting one that's 2-4 inches smaller than your waist size, it'll give you a reduction. Honour underbust corset. I've got that (in black), normally it's first class delivery if it's in stock, if not you'll have to wait 2 weeks otherwise. It'll push up your boobs a bit and give you a nice waist reduction. plus you can wear it as outerwear and it'll look nice as well. or wear it once and then sell it off.

if not magic knickers will do  they're cheaper. a basque will do nothing for you.

You certainly wouldn't want to wear that under the dress the OP has posted. (I should know, I own quite a few steel boned corsets)
The lacing for a start would cause problems - there's no way you could lace it, and not have them poking her in the back. Also as her dress isn't 'stretchy' the corset may well reduce her waist too much, causing the dress to be ill fitting - and it's not like you can wear a steel boned corset that isn't fitted properly so that it doesn't reduce her waist too much.

Magic knickers are the most suitable item for a dress like that.
Question about magic knickers:

I have a ball gown that has a stunning garlet bottom and a coral top with a scarlet ribbon around the waist. I have a tiny stomach, which shows a little on the skirt. However, I have a 25 inch waist and my dress wouldn't fit with a corset I don't think, and I really don't want to look skinnier. Plus, my top is boned within an inch of its life. So are magic knickers the answer? My worry is that you can't get them for Size 6 / 8?? And also that given that my top dress size is bigger than my bottom dress size, would they be at all baggy at the top? Oh, and where are the best places to look?
Instead of analysing it beforehand, why don't you just try some on? It's simply really; go to your nearest marks n spencers or debenhams or house of frasier and go and have a look at the magic knickers. In an instant you'll find out whether or not they do them in your size, and whether or not they'll fit you!

I lace my own corset, and i've got that exact same one, wear it under clothes and no one's any wiser. She'll be able to adjust the laces herself,so she'll have control over how cinched in she wants her waist to be and she'll know what's right for the dress. unless she wants to pay £90 for a bespoke corset, that's an affordable one i showed her as an option.

she wants to try the knickers anyways, so no point arguing about it.
£90? Try over £200 for a bespoke corset lol. I pay £90 for my most basic corsets.....

But each to their own. I personally wouldn't recommend a steel boned corset for wearing under a dress, tis all.
i didn't say she had to,it was a suggestion.and i did mean a basic corset but meh.
Ahh i remember looking at that dress on the internet not long ago, its definetly either monsoon or debenhams.
I have a phobia of those magic knicker things, I once tried some on to wear with a prom dress and they were so uncomfortable I felt sick! Maybe others are less resticting though!

I bought a basque over the weekend, really out of curiosity. I tried it on earlier and it is so uncomfortable. How do people manage to wear them for long?
