Failing exams and your UMS

Hypothetical question here (I hope) :smile:

If I sit an exam and come away with, say, 10 UMS, which is lower than an E and thus I fail the paper - do those UMS marks still get added into your final grade total? Or by failing the exam, do you lose them because you were judged not to have performed to a sufficient standard? If anyone can tell me for certain it'd be appreciated. Thanks :smile:
