Many schools are saying no to external candidates at the moment because of the changes to A levels. Have you tried the British Council? They may be able to help, or at least give you an idea of who to ask.

Can the Local Education Authority advise?

When I tried to self-teach a GCSE, the nearest place I could find who would take me as an independent exam candidate, was 60 miles away in the next county. Sometimes you have to travel quite a way.

    Which exam board?
    Old specification or new?
AS or the full A level?

You have far more chance finding somewhere to accept you for AQA than the other exam boards as they are willing to mark the work of private candidates (the centre just sends the work off to the moderator) but you still need someone (distance learning provider, tutor) to verify the work as the candidate's.

Have you tried her old school or college? Even if they don't normally accept private candidates then they may accept a former student if you ask.

There is a Yahoo group for home educators - I forget what it's called - which can provide good contacts for this.

However, you have left it very late for this year - the entry deadline for the Summer is effectively only 2 weeks away and many centres that do accept private candidates will have closed their books to further ones at the end of January or December.
