    i think igcse are the newer ones but i might be wrong. i did leave school nearly 7 years ago

    The I stands for International. They were developed for the International market. They tend to be more traditional in approach, have coursework rather than controlled assessment and always have a no coursework option so are favoured by people studying privately. Until 2010 they were not approved to be taught in state schools but some now are (but they are being withdrawn again).
