    Really stuck -

    What is the advantage of using indirect method over direct method for calculating enthalpy change for this reaction:

    C: 2 KHCO3 ------> K2CO3 + CO2+H20

    Indirect methods are:

    A: K2CO3 + 2 HCI -----> 2 KCI + CO2 + H2O
    B: 2 KHCO3 + HCI ------> K2CO3 +CO2+ H2O

    Thank you!!

    The first reaction requires energy in the form of heat to take place. However you can't measure the change in temperature caused by the reaction if you're heating it. Therefore the enthalply change has to be measured using an indirect method. Hope that helps
