Im loosing my hair!

This may sound absolutely mad but im loosing my hair. My hair keeps coming out only in little strands but my hair has become a lot thinner the last few weeks.
:frown: Its really getting me down, I have fairly long blonde fine hair down to the middle of my back and it was fairly thick. Its not like im going bald or anything but if my hair does keep coming out then i will. My Mum says it could be just stress that is making it come out, cos im in the middle of doing exams and essays at the moment.
Does anyone have any suggestions why this is happening? Or what i can do about it, Im clueless!
I dont want this to keep happening cos my hair is about the only thing i semi-like about myself. Im very protective of my hair, rarely have it cut or coloured cos im scared anything will happen to it. I hate the rest of me! Any suggestions!!! xxx :frown: :frown: :frown:

i think your mum is probably right. Stress can cause your hair to fall out, as well as certain medications, check the side-effects on packets of anything you are taking. Hair generally does fall out on it's own, i think about 100-200 strands a day is about normal. It could also be just because summer is coming and it's getting hotter, mine generally falls out more round this time of year. But if your really worried about it check with your GP.

I went through this exact situation about three years back, and i know just how scary and unplesent it is! First things first - go see your GP, because losing your hair may mean you are lacking in iron, or your thyroid is playing up. Basically, seeing your GP will put your mind at ease about any health issues. a lack of protein in your diet can also be the case

Another thing, understand that you're not going bald and even though your hair may be going thinner it wont all fall out. Apparently, every seven years your hair has a little spasm and starts falling out for no reason at all. The more you stress about it, the more you'll see your situation as scary, when its very normal so dont worry. Your mum might be right in saying it's stress, it could be that.

Try not to brush your hair excessivly either and dont keep it tied very tightly either. hope this helps

thanks folks, youve really set my mind at ease. I know it sounds really daft but i was soooo worried about it. I will give it another week and if it doesnt get any better, il get myself to the docs. Thanks sooo much! Thought i was gonna end up bald! xxx

Firstly, calm down, stressing about it will just make it worse. Get checked out by your doctor but its likely that nothing can be done, but you are not going bald. I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago after a pretty stressful event (motorbike accident) and i panicked like you are now, but after a couple of months it stopped and my hair grew back. If the doctor can't do anything for you then you just have to ride it out, but don't stress about it, its not permanent and most other people probably won't notice.

glad we've managed to put your mind at ease but I dont see the harm in seeing the GP sooner rather than later. of course it's up to u but maybe it'll put ur mind at ease even more coz you'll feel like you're at least trying to work out whats wrong.
