The music at our prom was great, we had a dj from local radio who wasnt great but then we had a jazz band and then this cafe jazz type singer and guitarist which were great, i dont think metal or punk has a place at a prom, something cheesy like robbie williams is always good though, i will never forget dancing to angels, the last song, at about 12.30 on our prom night last month

The Ataris - boys of summer
One of my favourite bop songs. You've got a good mix there, of top 40 trash (that some people inevitably want) and brilliant tracks

You gotta have Bryan Adams - Summer of 69 for any nostalgic party!
A lot of the others look good, although any alternative types won't be impressed but then are they ever? I don't recognise some songs, but of the ones I do, I can't think of any that I would definitely say "No way!" about.
If you're feeling über-cheesy, chuck some Abba in there -

Thin Lizzy The boys are back in town. : How about The Who-Teenage Wasteland?
Snap Rhythm is a dancer : Euro Dance classic!
Queens of the Stone age No one Knows : I'd go for The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret by QOTSA
N-Trance Set you free : So cheesy now but I remember liking it when I was 12 or 13.
New Order Vs Kyie Cant get Blue Monday out of my head : Now that's terrible. It has to be the original New Order - Blue Monday. Other great ones, are Temptation (off The Trainspotting soundtrack) and World In Motion (For anyone who remembers the 1990 World Cup!)
Kelis Trick me : Anything by Kelis is quality.
Frankie goes to Hollywood Relax Oh yes, cheesy 80s music. I like!
Jet Are you gonna be my girl Good choice
How about Modest Mouse - Float On for some other recent US rock?
All in all, it's a decent list but I don't think you should worry about the DJ maybe adding their own tracks. Not everything you don't know is a bad choice... and you probably don't have the same references as other people at the party. Just give him the playlist and tell him that you'd like most of the songs from there and that you'd like to keep it mainstream, more alt rock or electro...
A party with just cheesy pop music is kind of naf. It's ok for a while but after a couple of hours you might want to try something a little different. -

I hope thats not the only ataris song youve heard
Talking about annoying covers, don't you dare play No Doubt - It's My Life, that's a Talk Talk song. Damn yanks who have to copy every single good tune that ever comes out of the UK and make it as commercial as possible.
What about The Orgy that covered Blue Monday and their version is probably better known than the original in the US. And wanky Marilyn Manson spends his time covering British bands, the *******. -

ok, well I would allow the DJ some leeway but we found out that he DJ's at the worst club I have ever been to in my life and when i spoke to his manager he said "oh yeah he plays the latest chart music and loads of r n b" so we want to make sure he doesnt...can i add we dont have to pay for him, thats why we r using him and that our first prom was cancelled due to our ****** head teacher, so by the time we had to organise a second one we were quite tired out.
can i just say that there are a lot of metallica fans in r year who asked for it(i do love that song, so i am a little biased)
one i missed off the list was fischerspooner emerge, i dont care if no one else knows it, me and my m8 jon r massive electro fans n that was the song that got us into it -

If it was totally up to me, there'd be a few Underworld and Prodigy songs just for nostalgia.
Anything by Chicane is wicked to start off a night or to finish off. It's always chilled out but at the same time, it's still house enough to get you moving.
Anything by The Transplants is wicked party music. DJ DJ to start off and how about the Transplants' singer other band: Rancid - Time Bomb is awesome.
I'm really surprised Blur - Song 2 isn't on that list. It's an obvious choice but it's such a reference. -

thanks for all the suggestions, some have actually been put on already(the list isnt the most recent one, as had massive brainstorm last night)...as for enter sandman, there's a really good mix on one of the radio soulwax albums and we r gonna have that one hopefully...had forgotten song 2 blur but that has gone on. I wanted some prodigy but other people said no
n if we were going to have something in a Rancid vein I would have nofx I much prefer them.
We'd already decided that our first song is skools out n then someone quite upbeat and dancey , the last song is going to be queen dont stop me now, and song before that greenday good riddance(time of mylife), to slow it down and then speed it right up.
