You get at least 80% average UMS for the entire A Level (AS + A2). You get at least 90% UMS at A2. If you do both of these things, you get an A*.

You need 480/600 UMS (A overall) with 270 of it coming from your A2s. 80% overall and 90% at A2.

I think its 80% overall and 90% in A2. So I think thats fine as its more than 80% overall.
Although the specification has changed so it depends on what alevels you are doing.

You do not get an A*. You receive an A grade.

    80% overall needed AND
    90% average at A2 needed

ONLY exception is maths: 80% avg overall needed AND 180/200 in C3+C4.

    That's it

That is not true, there is no requirement (at least in my subjects) that you have to get 80% at AS. You have to get 80% overall and 90% overall in A2 units. This means that, in theory, you could get a B at AS (60% UMS) and then get 100% UMS at A2 and still get an A*.

does the 80% need to be in AS or just the overall subject

    Overall.

So technically one could achieve an A* with 70% at AS and the normal 90% at A2

The 80% needs to be overall, i.e across AS and A2, so the lowest someone could get in AS is 70% and 90% in A2 and this would make an A*.

70% isn't the lowest. You could get 60% AS, 100% A2 and still get an A*
