I'm currently in year 12 and I'm thinking of applying for computer science courses but my teachers keep going on about the importance of work experience but I have no idea what work experience I should do that would be relevant in my personal statement for a computer science application. I'm aiming for a top university such as St. Andrews but I honestly am clueless as to what to do about this work experience dilemma, is it important for a Computer science application to include work experience or is it a 'great if you have it but not an essential' situation.

    Thanks

You're teachers are right it will give you maybe a little edge over other candidates. However with regarding to work experience it does not have to be computer science related.... Volunteer in a computer shop, chairty shop. They don't expect you to start building networks for work experience.
