Pah...the essay about it has to be in within about an hour or so.

Meaning I'll have to find a book about it or something.

Damn you all :p:

Oh, just seen this thread! Sorry if your work had to already be in!

Schacht's New Plan, i'm doing this in my AS history at the moment. This was to reduce unemployment by introducing public work schemes in agriculture and new autobahns (motorways). The New Plan is also called the First Four Year Plan, so if you didn't know they are the same thing!

This also includes autarky (self-sufficiency) i think, when Hitler wanted to use substitute materials.

Basically it is reducing unemployment, getting women out of employment, sending off young men to the army, compulsory in 1935, getting Jews and minorities out of employment and creating jobs for all Aryan Germans in agriculture, industry and public work schemes.

1933-36: Hitler's plans for reducing unemployment (First Four Year Plan (New Plan))

1936-39: Hitler's Second Four Year Plan with Goering, preparing for war and rearmament.

1939-45: war-time economy.

Hope this helps and you understand a bit. If not then i can try to explain further if you wish .

Yeah, it had to be in earlier, but I never completed it.

Apart from a slight mistake (Goering introduced the policy of autarky, not Schacht), it is of use. It'll also help structure most of my essay too.

Thanks!

The New Plan is the first four year plan? God im doomed.

I thought the New plan was the actions Shact took to solve the budget deficit problem. Germany was low on gold and foreign currency reserves and was spending way too much money on imports. So he:

.Put in measures to regulate imports and the money spent on them
.and set up Bilateral trade agreements with the Baltic states for raw
materials.

The New Plan and the Four Year Plan are NOT the same thing- the former being part of Hitlers consolidation of his regime whilst the latter marking the start of rearmament and the drive to create a Wehrwirtschaft in 1936 (Shact was against all the money spent on rearmament )

i am well confused... i just googled it and it came up with this page

The way i understand it, desmondmac is right... the new plan was the bilateral trade and wage and price restictions to help the foriegn exchange crisis but conscription and public works schemes came in the 4 year plans...

does anyone know exactly?? and what do we really need to know about the new plan for people that did it last year

thanks x

hitler wanted germany to be an autarchy. (self sufficient). so if they got into any wars they would be able to cope. so hjalmar schact came up with the new plan. this decreased the amounf of imports and exports.
