    I think this shows a serious flaw in China's digital infrastructure and issues with its overall judicial system. More needs to be done to protect companies and users.

    This is why you should always pay through PayPal and be seriously concerned if the website doesn't accept it. Alibaba didn't because they had their own thing going — AliPay, which is even bigger than PayPal — but really, China never had serious cyber security laws and I'm not even sure whether Alipay had all the necessary international security certificates (do not quote me on this).
