Math HL paper 3 question

How are you preparing for maths HL paper 3? I am a bit annoyed at the scarcity of past papers available.... Also, do you think there is more emphasis on infinite series than differential equations?

By looking at the few papers that are I think it seems like something small on l'Hôpital will come, then something bigger on taylor/maclaurin and probably 1-2 diff equations (homogenous, Euler, integrating factor). It doesn't seem to be that much on the convergent/divergent series, but that could of course change this year :rolleyes:

. I think I find the series hardest really, required most practise and understanding whilst the DE and maclaurin "just" is a bit of algebra/calculus :smile:

Indeed the lack of papers is a problem, but looking at the old option there are somestuff that is still on the syllabus, and also look at the further maths SL papers that have some questions on this...

The fact that there are few papers, doesnt that just have to do with that the option used to be part of paper 2's ??

Yes, but the old option (on paper 2) was quite different a LOT more numerical methods and no maclaurin/taylor + l'Hôpital I think... So the questions are of limited use.

Lack of papers? I dunno, our teacher handed out many past papers, maybe you are not searching right, as up till recent years option was combined with paper 2, so you should search for your topics in papers 2, for 2004 and older.

It says that 10% of marks are represented by core topics. Is that an indirect formulation of core calculus topics or are they allowed to bring in random questions about vectors or probability?

Haha, I think it means calculus... I mean we've not seen any other random topics on the papers available have we :rofl:

There may be about 2-3 small questions on l'Hopital (calculate the limits), 2-3 small quetions about convergence, 1 question about power series, a big question on Taylor and Maclaurin and one big differential equation task...
