I used to live with a saxaphone player down the corridor, but she only played during the day which was ok.

The person next door was a nob and would play his bass guitar (with amp) at all hours. If I asked him to turn it down coz I was trying to sleep he'd be really apologetic, stop for 10 mins then carry on again. He also played the trombone in a similar way.

I didn't know anything about a noise curfew during the afternoon, but as long as you're prteyy quiet after 10:30pm nobody minds too much (might be hard with drums though!)

Eeeep I hope its not too much of an issue, I'm planning on taking my Elec guitar, 2 acoustics, 100w Amp, saxophone and electric piano :s-smilie: ...( God knows where i'm gonna put it all...)

lol good luck with finding space for all of that!

There is a music centre which has a few tiny practice rooms (mainly populated with pianos, filling up half the available space!) and a few larger practice rooms with pianos and I think a drumkit. In pretty much all of the rooms, there's definitely not enough space to put a drumkit AND still move!

If you're going to bring an electric piano - don't bother! Just use the ones in the music centre. They're not brilliant (well, I haven't played the Steinway grand yet...) but they'll more than suffice. They can withstand a half-decent thrashing! Speaking of which... I think I'll head down there now!

Ah I didn't realise there were rehearsal rooms for people...can people who aren't studying music use them at their leisure? ...And I more meant digital piano than electric piano, sorry...but meh, sorta the same thing, ones just bigger :p:

And sorry to hijack your thread, but whats the band scene like? I really wanna be in a band when I go to Lboro, is it easy to find people to jam with, or aren't there many around?

Thankilies in advance

edit: Gah, straight after positing this, I find the other thread about bands and stuff....just my luck. Note to self: Look harder in furture...
As I type this...I can hear drums above my neighbour's room...they can get annoying...but they stop at a reasonably time..so all good!

Loughborough doesn't offer Music as a degree, it's for anyone to use. And yes, for bands, join Musoc.

Well, as there is no music degree at Loughborough, I assume so :p:

On some evenings though it can be a bit crowded with the orchestra/choir/bands practising in the bigger rooms

The guy next door last year play guiter, and that wasnt really an issue with anyone in our block. Even when he had half a ska band in there practicing it was fine really becuase he only did in during the day and they sound all right and i quite like ska!

My neighbour has a Clavinova, You can have them provided:

a) It is a reasonable size - you cant stick a grand in your room
b) You dont get any complaints - keep it out the way of your cleaner, play it for yourself, dont play in the stupid hours of the night
I had my electric and a 10w amp, the rents wouldn't let me bring my 100w up! gits! But seriously, there wasn't much of an issue, and if there is, just plug a set of headphones. Drum kit however are a different story, unless you have those pads i guess, i don't reckon you could fit it in a halls room anyway!!

4 people in my block play guitar, sometimes loudly. Also, from my experiences, 'curfew' is largely ignored, especially when you get drunks coming back from the union at 3am and switching on some loud music for another hour or two.

Some of my other friends also play in a band and they practice in one of their rooms, thats drumkit et al. You just need to hope that you don't have fussy neighbours

'You stop acting like a drunk prat at 3 in the morning, and i'll stop playing my guitar super loud'... Compromisation...it could work...I'll bear this in mind for next year..^^

Drunk is always the best way, combine that with well amplified base lines, and your onto a winner...
