I make myself a timeline, then I look at the question formats that will be on the exam.
From this I can revise key arguments and points about historical figures or the situation in the country at the time, e.g. the conditions that lead up to the Russian Revolution of 1905 or how Lenin was important to the October Revolution of 1917.

I try to strike out insignificant facts, but it's important to not get rid of too much, I condense my notes as well.
