# Finding Critical Region watch

1. will some one pls explain it to me, cos each time i do it, its always the wrong answer so my method must be wrong........arghhh
2. To be honest mate the hypothesis testing is the hardest part of S2 and is something which you need to understand and apply yourself it is very difficult to describe hypothesis testing as a whole. I would reccommend reading P96-106 ESPECIALLY!! This is the key to the exam questions Edexcel will throw at you.

erm.......Q2 JAN 2003......

'a single observation 'x' is to be taken from a Poisson distn with parameter lamda. This observation is to be used to test Ho: lamda = 7 against H1: lamda doesn't = 7.

a) using a 5% sig level, find the critical region for this test assuming that the prob of rejecting in either tail as close as poss to 2.5%

b) write down the sig level of this test.
5. X-Po(7)

P(x<=2)= 0.0296
P(x>=13)= 1- 0.9730 = 0.0270

so required region is x<=2 and x>= 13

bascically u r trying to be as close as possible to 0.025

significance level is 0.0296 + 0.0270 = 0.0566 this means it is 5.66 %

x=5 is oust side the critical region so u do not rejecy Ho

sorry to reply late i was doing a past paper
