can't stand small things

Ive been like this for years probably all my life but a new neighbour has moved in next door and has put wind chimes up which I can hear faintly at night, lights and a water fountain thing. This wouldn't bother other people and its my being weird but its just the way I am. I can hear the constant sound of water now all night and all I want to hear are natural sounds like the wind (no wind chimes or whatever). There are also lights shining through my curtains now, im just fuming but theres nothing I can do. I guess im spoilt or something but then even spoilt people would be fine with these things. Ive lived here 15 years and am now going to have to listen to the constant sound of water and wind chimes everynight. Does anyone know why im like this, why can't I be normal and not bother with this?

lol. you'll get used to it i'm sure.

if it bothers you that much, ask the neighbours if they'd mind taking the wind chimes down. If they are nice they will do so.

have you tried blocking out the sound?
If you'd only asked me nicely, I'd have happily got rid of them.

I'm exactly the same. They say "don't sweat the small stuff" but it is the small stuff precisely that drives me mad. I hate ridiculous things, and always make the mistake of letting a petty thing cause an argument :frown:

u gotta have a word with em. would drive me crazy too. if they say no and get all moody go to citizens advice and c what u can do

Fair enough about the wind chimes, although I must say I'd find the water fountain quite relaxing .

I'm on your side here, they should shove their ****ing windchimes up their arse and turn their fountain off at night.

That sort of obnoxious behaviour really grinds my gears...

Blackout curtains'd solve the light issue (I got some when I was working late evenings & they definitely improved the quality of morning sleep). The windchimes is something you could talk to them about, though. It's a pretty common noise complaint. Tell em you're trying to study for your exams & can't sleep with wind chime noise.

my neighbours have wind chimes too and i can completely understand where you're coming from

wind chimes are meant to sound nice in a light breeze. but my neighbours used to leave them up 24/7 even in strong winds - they just dont sound nice then!!

i think theyve got rid of them now, so im lucky, but i would suggest going round and politely asking them to take the wind chimes down and to turn the fountain off at night

if they wont budge, then reason with them, and point out that neither of them need to be in use at night. the fountain is wasting electricity being on, and the wind chimes are noisy and unnerving (i find it spooky)

good luck!
I suggest trying the blackout curtains and maybe earplugs? If that doesn't work, then I suggest going to talk to them, because wind chimes can be very annoying.
You're like that because it is ****ing annoying. Perhaps you could tell your neighbours, if they don't listen just cut the strings of the chimes and pop the pipe on the fountain. I could not sleep with that crap.

You're quite normal, I have to have absolute silence to sleep. Howevee, when I moved house from silence, I now live in a studio flat (i.e. one room) WITH THE FRIDGE, it took me about 2 weeks to get used to it, but I can now sleep with it whirring away with no problem. The heating I can't cope with because it fires up and then stops whilst the fridge is constant. You should get used to it, but if not then have a word, or nick the bloody things!!

(I have a fountain on both sides now...they're driving me crackers so you have my sympathies!! )
Ask them to move the windchimes elsewhere, and get blinds for your room.
