I know that in the past, male recruits in the RAF had to straight up get their hair shaved, I was wondering if anyone who's in basic training or recently completed it would be able to tell me if this still stands? Or it's allowed to short back and sides? Reason I ask is because I have a mole, like a big one that my hair covers and don't really want it to be shown.

    Many thanks

No they didn't. Short, yes. Shaved, no.

It was a number 2 all over for us and I'm pretty sure it won't have changed much.

    It still stands

You all go and get your hair shaved off on day 00 and if not then the morning of day 01 before attestation. Number 2 all over

Throughout the training you will need to keep on top of it with hair and neck. Neck shaves are free. Depending on the cpls you might find they are a bit more relaxed and allow you to have a 3 on top and 2 on the sides after the initial cut. There are certain times when they will mention about people ensuring hair is how it should be.
