Colostomy??

HI im 18 and have a colostomy just wondered if anyone had one to? as would be nice to chat to someone who has the same thing!!

I don't have one but my aunt does. She copes very well and is very happy she no longer farts (lol), oh, and of course, that she's no longer in pain!

Are they a pain to live with? I was worried for my aunt to begin with but she seems to be getting on fine with it. Are they hard work to maintain/keep clean?

ileostomies tend to be much harder. but colostomies tend to be fine so long as the person sticks to good fibrous diet.
the colostomy technology these days is pretty good. low/no odour. heck they are often all but unoticable.

THe improvement to life in people with UC can be amazing.

iv had one for about 10 years, no problems just the odd occasion wen i was young had a few sticky situations due to wrong eating! but now i eat wat i want no problems, no one notices it and it was the best thing that they done for me! how long has your aunt had one?

My aunt's has been in about a year now. She had Crohn's and they decided it was better for her to have that, not sure of the exact details though :smile:
