It's been around for a while now. It sounds pretty awesome, but when I had a look at the 10 units to be taught, the content doesn't seem like much, compared to modern history, though I suppose it depends on how detailed it gets - I haven't actually watched the videos:

Unit 1: What is Big History?
Unit 2: The Big Bang
Unit 3: Stars and Elements
Unit 4: Our Solar System and Earth
Unit 5: Life
Unit 6: Early Humans
Unit 7: Agriculture and Civilisation
Unit 8: Expansion and Interconnection
Unit 9: Acceleration
Unit 10: The Future

Have you read Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything"

Absolutely fantastic book on this subject.

I read it and I liked it though I'd file it under "natural history" (a lot of big history is natural history so that point is mute). I don't get the Big History hype though. I know about most of the things proposed in this syllabus, although I never had a "big history" course. I think it's interesting, but I'm really not sure it's necessary or important or any better than normal history lessons.

It doesn't look to be intellectually very rigorous. You could probably learn more by reading Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" (mentioned by Supersaps above) in bed.
