I find cold milk works wonders, and hot milk for that matter. It might be worth a try.

iced drinks always helps me when i havent got rennies to hand
alkaline type stuff - some fruit like bananas and cranberry juice (NOT citrus/tropical fruit juice), milk. or scour the house for gavisons/other heartburn stuff.
also bready stuff like biscuits - helps soak up some of those acid secretions a bit.
You not got any rennies in your house? As the others suggested, drink something very cold.

although it is a burning sensation, heartburn is caused by acid, not heat, so tends not to be helped by cold drinks. infact it can sometimes make it worse.
instead you need to neutralise the acid or contain it in the stomach away from the oesphagus - which is what gaviscon does.

Milk and hot water works wonders for me. Whoever suggested Bananas; for some reason they seem to cause heartburn for me :/

The hot water also works for indigestion.

When people start talking about indigestion they immediately start referring to the "excess" stomach acid that they have! In most cases it is NOT a case of an excess of stomach acid, but a shortage of it.

Hydrochloric acid and pepsin, an enzyme working in an acid environment, are needed to break down the food effectively, and a shortage of these two ingredients will lead to a sluggish digestion of food and resultant indigestion. Taking apple cider vinegar may assist in effecting a remedy.

Well it is hardly smart putting more acid inside you when you have heartburn.

Indigestion != heartburn.

Me too, pretty badly.
Can't actually help as when I get it I can't seem to shift it at all except maybe don't snack too often, just eat meals normally and try not to have anything in between, that always makes it worse for me.

yep, but its such a laughable concept that the best thing to do is simply roll one's eyes.

You get indigestion, you treat to find alkali/bready foods, not acidy/fatty ones. Indigestion is little to do with 'poor food breakdown' and everything to do with acid from the stomach entering the oesophagus/irritating damaged mucosa in the stomach/duodenum.
