The location is way better than any of the other King's halls, without a doubt.

I'm getting round to sorting out my accommodation for King's, and looking through the many threads on accommodation, I keep seeing comments on how the intercollegiate halls are a good choice, but often neglected.

So what exactly makes the intercollegiates appealing? What makes them better than the King's residences?

Thanks

Location is definitely a major factor. All the intercollegiate halls are in prime central London locations. Connaught and College Halls are right in the heart of Bloomsbury, which is a very safe, quiet, and green area to live with great transport links (Northern, Central, Picadilly, Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, and Victoria Lines all within 15 minutes' walk, and loads of buses) - and still only 15-20 minutes' walk from Oxford Street.

I lived in Connaught Hall as a medical student and now I work there part-time. For me, living in an intercollegiate hall was really good because it meant I could socialise with people other than medics - and from all over the University of London, not just my own college, so I got to see other people's student unions and do a lot more different things than my friends who stayed in the college's halls.

All the intercollegiates are fully catered and students' rooms are fully cleaned once a week - those are plusses for some, and complete turn-offs for others! High-speed internet is included in the accommodation fees. There are no hidden charges for anything (food, cleaning, internet) - it's all included.

The intercollegiate halls have a well established network of social and pastoral support services to (a) boost residents' social experience of the hall and (b) help out if things go wrong. But don't trust me - I work in an intercollegiate hall so obviously I'm biased - read what other people have said (and see some of the other links below):

Do you mean Nutford House? That's an intercollegiate.

Brian Creamer House is central. So is Wolfson. They're both in zone 1. The only bad location is that of KCH... Hampstead campus is pretty far out (zone 3?) but Hampstead is fantastic.
