Cologne Karneval watch

    • Thread Starter

Karneval is one of Germany's lesser known festivals. It takes place only in the Nordrhein-Westfalen region, with the biggest celebration being in Cologne. I went this year with some friends and it was honestly such an amazing weekend! The main day is Rosenmontag, when the parade takes place. People on the floats or walking in the parade thrown out sweets, chocolate and other things famous in/from Cologne, kids especially get tonnes of stuff, and they give out flowers to the adults. They were giving flowers to the police lining the route too, which was really cute. Everyone dresses up and gets really, really drunk - it's a really great weekend and definitely rivals Oktoberfest!
