im in year 12 and considering which courses to apply for, i definitely want to go to uni quite keen on a few courses but not sure which would be more worth it? like which has a better chance of getting me a good job.

Criminology (on its own)
criminology with psychology
forensic psychology with criminal justice
criminal justice with criminology
LLB Law with criminology

the law and the criminal justice system interests me, i think i want to work with criminals in court, working with ex offenders/youth offenders or in a prison. can someone explain what options are available for any of the courses or any students studying these courses at uni, doyou enjoy it? what uni do you go to? im feeling LJMU and UWE

Okay so first off you've got completely the wrong premise about going to university. Picking your course should not be based on best job prospects because chances are you could be on a course where you don't like the content and drop out (trust me it happens ALL the time with people who think yeah lets do law to make tons of money).

Secondly I can tell you a bit about the course prospects but it is all subjective okay?

Criminology is in general very difficult to find work in. I know quite a few criminology graduates from my university and my friend went to Durham for it and hardly anyone we know has found work in a prison or the justice system. I know someone who did psychology at Reading who now works in prisons. My friend who went to Durham is doing a masters in Criminology because a lot of careers are research based or just require a masters.

My old university used to offer law with criminology and I feel like a lot of people thought it would be an extension of criminal law but it isn't. If you want to do law make sure you're in it for the right reasons... the LLB has required modules in things like land law, constitutional law, equity and trusts, contract, tort etc. Criminal law is only one module.

Criminology is a mickey mouse course. And LJMU and UWE are not very good universities.

That said, you have an idea of where you want to work - and it is realistic.

If it was me, I would go to university and get some sort of law/social work degree and get a job working as a prison officer for a while - then specialise.
